According to U.S. President Donald Trump, Russia "has been fine on Ukraine" and "hasn't been doing much" to the country it has been attempting to violently conquer for over a decade.

"Russia, frankly, has been fine on Ukraine. They haven't been doing much," Trump told reporters on Oct. 19.

The president's remarks came the same day that a Russian daytime drone strike in a public park killed six people, including two children. The night before, Russia attacked Kyiv with over a dozen ballistic missiles and targeted nearly 30 critical energy facilities across the country.

Well maybe, in point of fact I'm also a recovering American. I see American democracy as fundamentally broken at this point, so I tend to find fault with anyone describing Americans based on election results. Democracy has been under attack ever since the business plot, and it was never in great shape to begin with. Blame Nixon and every (including Democrats) president and congressperson since him for letting it happen in slow-motion plain daylight.

They certainly accelerated things, but the fact is, people had every single opportunity at the ballot box to choose better and failed to do so. There were no tanks rolling down Pennsylvania Avenue. This was not a coup. Getting to this point happened because enough of the populace were complicit. I'm glad you're also a recovering American, but the people who are left have to really consider when they say "This isn't us." No, it isn't you, but as a whole country? This might be "us", and it's time to seriously consider the company they're keeping.

Certainly. I'm always caught between remembering that there are good Americans and the disappointing reality of being a 'good person' living in an evil empire in its final floundering years.

I don't think anyone is in a realistic position to save the US at this point. The money is in charge, and it only wants one thing. When it stops getting it, there's nowhere safe from what will happen.

At this point? I think one of the first political discussions I had with my father was that the US legal and democratic system are broken beyond repair and have been for decades now. It took Trump's ideocracy to make it painfully obvious.

Arguably I think many countries have arrived or will be arriving at the threshhold of functionality. So far the only two remedies that history provides are revolution or utter capitulation after losing a war. Let's hope we find another less violent yet systematically equally disruptive solution. I for one cling to the believe that there's still hope.
