Monty Python, Only Fools and Horses, Fawlty Towers, BlackAdder, Red Dwarf, I could go on and on and on. I feel like they haven't really done anything drastically funny since The Mighty Boosh, which was over 20 years ago now. Inside Number 9 was alright, but gave up its comedic undertone after the first series or so. Red Dwarf has moved to Dave, The Goes Wrong Show was good too, but that was an adapted stage show. Technically The Mighty Boosh started as a stage show too, have the BBC not done any good original adult comedies since the 90s? I know this is a facetious tangent given everything else the BBC do, but I'm honestly surprised how little anyone seems to notice or care that arguably the biggest entertainment network in the world can't even entertain its audience any more permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 6 child comments replies: [–] Dultas@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago The Thick of It? I would say the office but that's 25ish at this point. permalink fedilink source parent [–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 1 point 2 days ago (4 children) There is still some masterful comedy, like Taskmaster and various panel shows. However the embraceing of the modern, counter culture and edgy things has gone down the drain as directors have boomerified and have things to lose. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] M137@lemmy.today 7 points 2 days ago (1 child) You seem to have thought "ah, British thing, means it's BBC". permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago Well I go appreciate panel does like this was the news, qi and would I lie to you. Comedy is not entirely dead in the beeb. But I wasn't aware that channel 4 wasn't part of the main media mogul, so I stand corrected. permalink fedilink source parent [–] WillowWisp@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago (1 child) Taskmaster is Channel 4, and started life on Dave. BBC has nothing to do with it. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago Ah, in that case I stand corrected.
