You won't miss it for long. If you are looking for some sort of ethical trigger, it's already happened man, don't kid yourself, it's an addiction.

It's been happening for years. I've been wanting out since before Trump's first term.

I'm not addicted though, I don't even use Facebook. I only use the Messenger to write with my friends. But I want to move the remaining two most contacted over to Signal. They refuse. Say "I don't want another app. I'm too old for new shit." 😩 They are in their thirties and grew up watching the Internet evolve, how are they this bad.

I deleted Facebook, messenger and WhatsApp. Anyone who doesn't want to use signal has my number to SMS text. Which is shit and chargeable. They may come around.

I wish I could delete WhatsApp as well but my 68-year old dad is on that and my badminton and work connections are there. Especially a lot of badminton people use WhatsApp (middle and east Asians seem to use that a lot). At least it's E2EE. 😬

Yeah, it's really, really bad now. Yesterday's news was what triggered me hard. I'm not even queer in any way — cis and straight — but don't fk with my fellow humans' rights. That's unacceptable.

edit: ah, I see what you mean by "social web" now. Sorry about that. Admittedly, I have to use Whatsapp for that precise reason.

Yeah, I really wish we had something open and standardized that we could use to keep in touch, like with group chats and such. I never use the feed part of Facebook. I don't even have the Facebook app. I just use the Messenger. But I still want out. Have wanted for a long time. I actually managed to convert most of my most contacted mates to Signal.
