Lemmy and other link aggregators are just a (small) part of the fediverse, though.

Lemmy ⊂ Threadiverse ⊂ Fediverse

I struggle to explain Lemmy or the fediverse simplicity for the unfamiliar

"You've heard about Twitter and Reddit, right? Imagine if you could read, upvote, and comment on Reddit posts from Twitter directly, without a Reddit account. Or the other way around. This is kind of what Fediverse is. Also most of it is run and managed by volunteers and non-profits, like Wikipedia, so it doesn't try to spy on you or show you ads."

I just say it's like email but for forums. You can message someone on outlook with your Gmail account, now imagine if you could see and comment on reddit posts while you're on Twitter and vice versa

Part of why we put this together is so that I could send it to people when I struggle to explain 😅

Fediverse is just a (small) part of the internet, though.
