Basically, I've designed it such that a user's profile is built up from facets, and each facet is used to build both the user profile page and the filter page. That is to say: you can filter on everything that can be shown on a profile. But also, a user might mark any facet as visible to "everyone", "matches", or "disregard" (the latter in case you just don't want to answer that one). There's more to it, of course, but that's a very short verison.
