Hell the US is the reason there is a North and South Korea and not just a single country like it once was. There wasn't a North and South simply just Korea up until the 38th Parallel after WW2. What you are talking about with the North invading the South was the North's attempt to reunite the country under one banner after being split by the US. They failed primarily because the Soviet Union lost the cold war and the US won.
