Hindsight is 20/20 and I realize this probably wasn't the best idea to begin with....

Could that be done in a "white glove" way? Cracking the original shell on a phone requires quite a bit of heat and leverage, both of which seem super risky.

    Isn't the back plastic? If so it shouldn't be that hard to remove it without damaging it, but I would check repair videos or ifixit and see if they damage it.
