My read is dude is a clueless lib leaning boomer. His lines indicate less dismissal and more lack of knowledge, which is fair for the average person, not like the news was reporting about trans folks getting AIDS in the 80s, trans folks basically didn't exist to the media at the time. His lines also don't seem to imply trans folk deserve suffering, just that its a foregone conclusion, which is also a wildly different beast.
