Canada hasn't been making military alliances and trade deals with every other country for the last year for nothing. They also didn't just recall their military for nothing either. Canada's fortifying itself in plain sight and the trump admin are too stupid to notice.

Did we recall our troopies? I wasn't even aware of that.

Yes, we announced this week we're winding down a lot of overseas operations and will be focusing on domestic defense operations.

Gonna be real interesting to see which way we flip if US v. Canada becomes real.

ANZUS v. The Crown

I'd hope it would be US vs the rest of the world, but I don't have that much faith in our leadership.

The rest of the world might do sanctions but that's it. The US has nukes, Canada doesn't.

But it doesn't matter. If this happened the US would be committing suicide because it would wreck the economy, create all kinds of internal strife, and we'd have thousands of Canadians sabotaging our infrastructure with no easy way to differentiate them from us. And probably a bunch of Americans joining in with them.

No doubt it'd stir the republic idea again, I wonder how much power Charles really has when it comes to Australia declaring war.

Officially he has none, but it does require assent from the Governor General still, realpolitik says he could probably force the GG into an action. It's been done before (Whitlam's sacking)

If you think Australia or New Zealand are joining an attack on Canada, you're very much mistaken.

[–] ms_lane@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I don't think we would (Australia) - but we're joined at the hip to USA, our entire defense apparatus revolves around them.

Unlike Canada we don't have the luxury of 'the rest of NATO' to fall back on, it's unfortunately appeasing US interests or having no one.

UK won't ever actually come and help us if we were in need and NZ would but it wouldn't make much of a difference.
