When I signed up I wasn't using a VPN, just the home internet that for the last 7 years had only been used by my mid 60s father who can barely use a computer and spends all of his free time playing a slot machine "game" where you do nothing but click the button over and over and it tells you how much you win or lose.
The only real reasons I suggested a VPN are to try to keep it from being associated with your actual existing information if you have any. But it's Meta. I imagine if you just logged out of any account you might have and made a new one it would go that same way.
