And Holden is supposed to be a joke? permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 5 child comments replies: [–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -3 points 3 weeks ago* (4 children) Yeah, i read 2 of the books and had the 3rd purchases before I gave up, because it was so stupid and dumb. felt like I was reading teenage fan fiction of the tv show. I'm mad at stupid bullshit, and the world consists of a lot of stupid bullshit and stupid bullshit people and their celebrations of how stupid and bullshitty they are. Don Quixote however, is fantastic. But people who like the expanse are almost never going to read a legit serious novel like that, because it would be too hard for them. Like remembering the name of the horse was for Anon. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 4 child comments replies: [–] rabidhamster@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago (3 children) I hope one day you're able to find out what's making you so angry. I went through a phase of taking myself too seriously, and only reading "serious" literature, only listening to music that was "pure" enough, etc.. Then I figured out that sometimes you mix a little comfort food into your diet of fine dining, and life gets a little brighter. It's not about stopping being critical, but looking at the why and what that criticism covers. Corporate bullshit sucks, and always will. But a series of books written by a couple of (previously) nobodies just seems like a strange target for this much ire. Totally fine if its not your jam, though. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 3 child comments replies: [–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -3 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (2 children) the assumption that i'm angry makes me angry. weird how that works, isn't it? it's almost as if... you approach people with assumptions about them, it tends to piss them off. WTF are you on about. They are not nobodies they were both established writers. who were in their mid 40s when they wrote it. one of them was George R R Martin' writing assistant for years. you think i'm deeply angry... and you can't even get your basic facts straight... it's now ire man, it's called facts and context. Sorry if they offend you so much. Lots of shitty books and tv shows are very popular and enjoyed by many people, and then entirely forgotten about a decade later. And lots of 'nobodies' lean into their mythology that their success was random and spontaneous rather than the product of years of work and the right social connections. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 2 child comments replies: [–] rabidhamster@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 child) Hey man, you touched all this off by making wide, sweeping, personal generalizations about folks who like literature that you don't (or read at a different rate, or remember different details than you would have), even going so far as to tie it to their nationality. You set the tone, so if you can't take it don't dish it. Easy as. permalink fedilink source parent hideshow 1 child comment replies: [–] TubularTittyFrog@lemmy.world -3 points 3 weeks ago* Hey man, you interpreted shit that way. Check your own interpretations. The only tone that exists in the written word is the one you create in your head. But maybe if you were an active educated reader, you'd understand that. It's on though, your a db0er, which tells me you're a anarchist nitwit who believes nothing is their own fault and 'society' is the issue with everything. because it's everyone else who is the problem, not your own personal choices. permalink fedilink source parent
