It's originally a Japanese movie released in 1998, known as Ringu which an American remake came out in 2002 known as "The Ring", have you seen the Japanese original prior to watching the US version of what's supposedly meant to be an adaptation? If so, what are the differences between the original vs the remake? If you consider the US remake crap, why is that the case when comparing it to the original one?

Oops. I did it again.

Ringu is a perfectly good movie. The remake isn't bad either. It's interesting to see the cultural differences in both movies. It's also interesting how each movie tries to meet the viewing preferences of the local audience.

Some movie remakes are doomed to fail. cries Leave Oldboy alone. ;) I also can't imagine a modern/ western remake of Seven Samurai. Or even a Pulp Fiction remake without Bruce Willis and not made by Tarantino.

Is remaking a sign for the lack of new original movie plots? I wouldn't think so.
