Once you reach elected politician levels of wealth and power, red and blue is more of an aesthetic than a conviction.

Politics is all about maintaining the interests of the wealthy and powerful. Parties are just branding designed to entice people.

That's why it seems like there's a disconnect but there isn't, the system is working as intended.
