If I remember from my Latin lessons, claudit means something like "closes". Like with a door

    The Latin name Claudius, which is where the French name Claude comes from, originally was an adjective meaning 'limping, lame'. I guess it might be related to claudo 'to close' as well, but the usage of the name was primarily inspired by the carrier (including the Roman emperor) having a limp.
