"X is acting like Voldemort. Voldemort level evil. Literally 1984." What are you a child?

If someone brags about reading for status but only reads fiction, their knowledge is useless in practice. Fiction can be great, but treat it like junk food, enjoyable but not real world wisdom

This is quite prevalent, especially seeing things on Bluesky and other places. Yes I like Space Channel 5 Part 2, no I will not compare real fascists to the Rhythm Rogues.

Those excusing it often claim that fiction always mirrors the real world. Usually this is a reaction to more right-wing opiners who claim that fiction is "non-political", then with the left strip saying that is is actually political, and finally with the entirely fictional work brought in to represent people who cause real suffering.

It's "Power Rangers is non-political" -> "Power Rangers is political, actually" -> "This U.S. general is acting just like Rita Repulsa"

I wish that people would read history books instead of just fiction. Back when I was in school, the library would be filled with fictional novels (usually coming-of-age novels) and then a few non-fiction ones. I suppose those Libs picked up the "history is boring" bug and never got it off.
