i think i stink too but I'm used to my own smell.

but it took me a long time to realize smelling others' (mostly strangers') breath and b.o. has been causing me background stress and using up my spoons, probably since birth.

especially if someone acts insensitive or straight up assholian, even breathing the same air as them feels demeaning and like defeat.

so I'm finding it hard to take my mask off permanently (or semi-perm) even though i have all the vaccines that medicine allows.

the problem is that i can barely breathe with n95 (or kn95) and it makes everything physically hard. but not wearing it makes everything mentally harder.....

should i talk to my therapist about it? med Dr? or both?

edit: forgot to mention, cologne/perfume, lotion, fabric softener, etc also bother me. certain shampoos seem ok, i don't know why. sandalwood (like east Asian incense) is ok too.

I think if you're having trouble breathing through those you need to do more exercise, like riding a bike as fast as you can for as long as you can (something similar). That being said I would LOVE to wear a mask when riding my bike so I don't take in a lung fulls of someones fossil fuel waste and so I can actually smell things (nice things, like fall leaves and ocean stuff) afterward, but I tried it once and almost sucked the mask all the way into my mouth which was not fun.

I also have trouble with peoples breath. I can usually tell when someones a bit dehydrated because it just smells a certain way and much more than usual. I have to like steel myself to interact with them... a mask would help but then people have trouble hearing me, which is more spoons than just dealing with their breath. >...>

Have you read The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells? The main character often complains about how stinky humans are (among other things). Pretty sure Murderbot is based off of an autistic person because sooo much of their persona is relatable.

I don't think it's exercise related. Even back when I competed in some fairly cardio-heavy sports (~8h per week of cardio/endurance work on top of regular strength training), medical masks still felt incredibly suffocating.
