No one is saying that the Democrats and Republicans are the same. What we're saying is that the Democrats allegience to the ruling class puts them in a position that makes them unable to deal with fascism, and the result is that their function as a political party is to defang otherwise radically leftist movements.

Joe Biden spent a record amount on ICE camps while the threat of fascism was obviously clear.

Biden continued building Trump's border wall.

Joe Biden sat on his ass for 4 years and refused to prosecute Trump.

Democrats sat with their thumbs up their butts while Merrick Garland got flogged for scotus, and then turned around to immediately confirm Barrett.

Obama not only discovered Tom Homan, but awarded him with a medal when Homan devised a plan to separate migrant children from their parents at detention centers.

Every single dem senator voted to confirm Marco Rubio, who has obviously been one of the biggest champions of "immigration enforcement.

Democrats capitulated during the multiple government shutdowns.

Democrats blatantly shafted Bernie in 2016, and all but guaranteed Trump's ascension.

Democrats refused to pull Biden out of the race and all but assured Trump's second term.

Kamala promised to build the world's most lethal military during an active genocide

Democrats, during a period of blistering inaction, rushed into action to censure Al Greene when he was rude.

You have way more comments attacking democrats than republicans. I wonder why that is?

Because people like you need to be constantly reminded that the Democrats are also part and parcel of the Epstein class.

Not who your responding to, but in spaces like lemmy we generally don't need to repeat "orange man bad". Everyone knows.

Lol what a joke. Fuck YES they are, and in nearly every single fucking thread. What a ridiculous lie to claim.

it's not that they're the exact same, but the difference between a fox and a wolf is that the fox will lie to you and pretend to be your friend while doing the same thing the wolf does.

You literally just said "I'm not a both sideser and every thread isn't full of people claiming that but here's a dumb analogy for why both sides are the same!"

Of course you thought your analogy was great. You would.

The joke about Lemmy is that lemmings wouldn't understand nuance if it bludgeoned them to death, and that comment is rich as fuck coming from you.

You can breed a wolf into a whippet. Foxes just piss everywhere and smell horrible. Analogies are fun!

    first off, gross.

second, the republicans were the wolves in the original analogy, sorry that it went over your head.

Yeah and now you're having to go over your analogy and rexplain it when the point was that you can make analogies all day and it doesn't mean anything. Now we're both idiots having to explain ourselves. What productive discourse we're having.

i was actually borrowing malcolm x's analogy:

The white liberal is the worst enemy to America, and the worst enemy to the Black man. Let me explain what I mean by the white liberal. In America there is no such thing as Democrat or Republican anymore. The surface differences which you think exist between those two parties - they have all integrated into the wolf and the fox. They do not belong to the same party. A wolf and a fox, in my eyesight, differ only in one thing: the wolf shows you his teeth before he bites you; the fox will smile at you and all the time he's smiling, he's moving in for the kill. You are safe from the wolf. He shows his teeth. But the fox - he looks friendly.

extremely funny that it went completely over your head though

Hey good for you, you can quote Malcom X. No idea why you're trying to get me to vote Republican so hard though.

it seems like the strategy is now to insult and shame people for practicing their democratic right to make their own opinions and also putting words into people's mouths. The despair, its so sad to see.

Genuinely where? I always find myself reading through these threads because it's something I feel very conflicted about and still haven't really found a satisfying answer to. And every time I see a bunch of comments of people calling out the "both sides same" people. But I don't know that I've ever seen someone actually say this. Maybe it's the way the comments are sorted, maybe they get deleted, maybe I've just somehow gotten lucky.

But in this thread alone, I read through a little over 100 comments to get to this one. So far, 0 have said that both sides are the same. There have been 6 comments either complaining about people saying both sides are the same. Or accusing people of saying that. But I haven't seen anyone actually saying that.

I've seen criticisms of Democrats. That's a valid thing to do, and doesn't mean that both sides are the same, just that our side has issues too. That should be addressed, and acting like they're not issues isn't going to make them go away.

I've seen people talk about similarities between both sides. And calling out the Democrats slowly leaning further and further rightward doing things like throwing immigrants and trans people under the bus in the efforts to chase the moderate conservative vote. That's not saying both sides are the same.

I've seen people talking about how both sides are captured by corporate interests. And don't really listen to the people they represent but rather their donors, to keep that money flowing. This is something both parties share in common, but again it's not saying that they're the same though.

I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just trying to understand, with how often I see people complaining about people saying it all the time, how I haven't really seen anybody say it.
