Maybe learn the difference between "need" and "want"? That's a good place to start.

    Yep. More important than where you buy things is how much you buy. Best we can do is just boycott everything. Keep your overall economic participation to a minimum.

    And when you must buy, try first to do direct local dealings instead of going through middlemen.

    I buy my tea from the people growing it, not from some massive repackager and brander, for example.

    It's not always possible, but it's possible more often than people think and you tend to get better stuff at a lower price anyway.

    some people have impulse control problems, so that's a very bold thing to say on a brand new account

    Impulse control problems are induced by the societies we live in, especially by marketing. While you are right to refuse to shame those victim of such, which we all are at different degrees, I think the advice to force ourself to reconsider our needs before buying is a good one. Isn't it?
