Funny thing is we only see four lightsabers in total in the original trilogy. We have Luke's first lightsaber that was originally Anakin's [blue], Luke's second lightsaber he built after losing the first one fighting Vader [green], Obiwan's lightsaber [blue], and Vader's lightsaber [red]. And that's it. So in some ways it doesn't surprise me that the amount of lore expanded greatly once the prequels came out.
