It's partly his dementia and partly the way he's been nurtured from infancy. He probably cannot comprehend that he isn't everyone's special boy, especially given how he's immersed himself in algorithmically-weighted content for decades.
His reality does not match to actual reality. He probably thinks the protesters were paid or some bullshit like that, but in fact, they're just regular full-time workers whose pay doesn't cover basic necessities anymore, and he promised to fix it and made it worse.
