Bambi (europe.pub)

Just had to rush our diabetic cat to the vet hospital this afternoon.

We've been on top of his treatment but today he was being lethargic. He got up and was very wobbly, something was obviously wrong.

We have a home testing kit which I rushed out and it got a reading of 1.1 mmol/L which is way way too low.

Got the honey out and put some on my finger and rubbed on his tongue. Called Vet. Did honey 3 more times and then rushed to the vet.

Dunno why I'm writing this. I'm in the waiting room trying not to cry. It's an emergency vet and everyone here is solemn or crying. So sad.

Update: Bambi is at home resting but is not out the woods yet. The low blood sugar is one thing but he had extreme vertigo and still has it. He hasn't had much in the way of food or drink but he is hungry and will lick a wet treat (licky lick). His sugar levels were okay by the time we got to the vet, but now this neurological problem. He can't move much but he responds to my voice and touch. Will be sleeping by him tonight.

Update: Bambi has passed. The last 24hr I've experienced the most pain ever. This is the first long term pet to have died. He died on his birthday at 16 years old. I'm absolutely devastated. I can't stop crying. My little man, my best boy, my fat mog.. is no more. Times are hard.

He died from a neurological condition. I was willing to throw money for a hope of survival but the referred vet neurologist said an MRI is 5-6k and that is just for discovery. If he needed surgery it would be 20k. I just couldn't do it. It hurts so much that I couldn't afford it.

I'm so sorry, I'm glad you were able to get him to the vet and hope they're able to help him.

My family has had two diabetic kitties and it is so difficult. Whatever happens, it sounds like you're doing a great job of caring for Bambi.
