Is 'Melissanthe' an actual Greek personal name or it was invented by a Greek poet?

@juliebean@lemmy.zip Are they all invented?

Isn't every name invented by someone?

Plenty of names were invented by poets and writers. If someone uses a word as a name, by definition it's a 'real' name.

'Tiffany' is even funnier.

In the original novel 'Diamonds Are Forever' Tiffany Case tells James Bond that she was born in Tiffany's jewelry store while her parents were shopping for a wedding ring. Miss Case is a smuggler and probably much worse.

Somehow, 'Tiffany' became a classy name for girls.

Neat. It was originally given to girls born on January 6th, the Feast of the Epiphany. It's a long and storied name.

TIL.

I wonder if the author knew about the Feast or just saw the name and ran with it.

Not sure, but I read the synopsis of the book on Wikipedia and am pretty interested.

The main character is what we would consider a social parasite attempting to live off wealthy men. The high class setting makes me believe that breakfast at Tiffany's is referring to the jewelry store, which is the only place she feels calm.
