Fuck AI

"We did it, Patrick! We made a technological breakthrough!"

A place for all those who loathe AI to discuss things, post articles, and ridicule the AI hype. Proud supporter of working people. And proud booer of SXSW 2024.

AI, in this case, refers to LLMs, GPT technology, and anything listed as "AI" meant to increase market valuations.

Microsoft, after shoving Copilot into every product they make:

Alt: Copilot after dropping your production database

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 63 points 6 days ago

So it should be banned by corporate IT departments. Like they do with solitaire or minesweeper.

This should be written in bold on first page in first paragraph.

This should have never been born, let alone jammed into every possible crevice of the OS. Microslop needs to die and take windows fucking with it.

As many other things shouldn't have ever existed. And yet, here we are...

Greed can produce fascinating monsters. Especially paired with low intelligence and morale.

At least I have to give them credit for using plain language rather than circuitous legalese:

We get to decide whether to use Your Content, and we don’t have to pay you, ask your permission, or tell you when we do. But that doesn’t mean we can use it however we want.

I suppose watching my coworkers have meltdowns when it breaks something they're working on is pretty entertaining

One of my bosses sent out an unvalidated datasheet to a supplier last week. the supplier wasted a few hours trying to figure out the data, then we had a meeting to go over how the data made no sense. probably wasted about 20 man hours on this, three of them internal. mind, we're busy as fuck right now and can't afford to waste time redoing work.

that was definitely the right choice, though. had to be, he's the boss. the AI guy.

Just like Fox News!

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/microsoft-copilot/for-individuals/termsofuse

This is the "for-individuals" TOU/TOS, their enterprise version probably has something more stock friendly in it. Don't care enough to look for and read through that though.

Funny thing, Google is doing tv advertising in Brazil, selling the idea of gemini being little more than a toy to make funny pictures and videos

I'm not entertained by it because you are forcing me to use it and because you don't respect my choice, NO MEANS NO!!

[–] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 94 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Does Microsoft understand consent?

A. Yes

B. Remind me in 3 days

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 30 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Bill Gates is in the Epstein files so no consent isn't a known term to him so his company follows the same rules.

[–] underisk@lemmy.ml 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Hilarious what’s become of everyone’s favorite example of a “good billionaire”.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 15 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Funny what happens when you pay a lot of people to talk about how nice you are.

If you pay enough people you might even get people to believe in things that are benefitial to you.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 9 points 6 days ago

Don't forget the 3rd option "No (but we'll ignore it because you didn't really mean it)"

[–] Sabata11792@ani.social 6 points 6 days ago

Also the 'remember this selection' check box will not work.

[–] inari@piefed.zip 54 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Imagine thinking this will hold up in a court of law

[–] Velypso@sh.itjust.works 9 points 6 days ago

It probably will in the same way Fox news claims they are an entertainment channel.

[–] Mwa@thelemmy.club 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

unironically, this was what i mostly used AI for(its not good for anything useful).

[–] not_IO@lemmy.blahaj.zone 12 points 1 week ago

right? it's really mostly a gimmick that is funny for like a few days and then you move on

[–] then_three_more@lemmy.world 5 points 6 days ago

I use nano banana instead of GIFs. It's fine to know you're destroying the worlds climate and leaving small American towns without drinking water for a brief smile from your colleges or a reaxtu emoji.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 7 points 1 week ago

Well, goddamn it. I am entertained. I guess that means AI works after all.
