I'd swap EA and Ubi. EA is as bad as Ubi AND has the tendency to take beloved franchises and kill them. Definitely Chaotic Evil. A tumor on the games industry.

I’d say swap ubi with epic first. Epic is evil while Ubisoft is just incompetent. Then you can swap epic up to the top or whatever.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

No, Ubi is evil. Ubisoft heads believe you have no rights to the game you bought. None whatsoever. Yves has the biggest hardon for cloud streaming you've ever seen, because it means a perpetual revenue stream for him, and zero control for you.

Guys guys guys, chill, they can all be evil and you can add Bobby Kotick controlled Activision-Blizzard to the evil list as well as most of the games industry and tech sector once they get past a certain size.

Ah yes, the same Bobby Kotick who had a long relationship with Jeffrey Epstein in mails where they talked about using micro-transactions to indoctrinate children into capitalism.

[–] Don_alForno@feddit.org 4 points 2 weeks ago

Let's face it, all AAA publishers are chaotic evil at this point.

Epic is evil while Ubisoft is just incompetent

Incompetence is a form of evil. Put them both in the same square.

Epic takes less cuts from games than anything else and has fought against monopolies on mobile devices

[–] tyler@programming.dev 12 points 2 weeks ago

They fought against those “monopolies” because they were pissed they couldn’t get a piece of the pie. There are so many emails from Sweeney that came up in the Apple court case showing that he’s a huge piece of shit who would do anything to get the giant cut of the pie. If he could have that monopoly on mobile devices he would, he’s not fighting for the consumers, he’s fighting against Apple and Google because he wants the money.

It was actually a tough choice but I went this way because EA systematically kills franchises while doing good things once in a while and I don't think Ubisoft know what they're doing. I would also put Epic on evil side but comparing to these 3, they seemed not as evil.

Also not to forget: "Why EA is the worst gaming company in USA? Because Ubisoft is in France."

Valve not being dickridden for once? I'm breathing fresh air and I'm loving it.

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 16 points 2 weeks ago

Well, they set the balance, for now at least.

What's the centre square? I don't recognise that one.

[–] Zozano@aussie.zone 4 points 2 weeks ago

Speculation: physical media.

It is your bonus BINGO square!

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Epic should definitely be in the Evil alignment tho

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

Honestly, I felt the same but when I try to order for evilness somehow it didn't get on top 3.

[–] SethranKada@lemmy.ca -4 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

Personally, I'd swap Steam and GOG

[–] muhyb@programming.dev 42 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That would also work though I chose the good side as DRM-free side, mostly.

GoG openly uses genAI... I would put them somewhere on evil.

Marketing Artwork, apparently. Some of their employees have spoken out about it.

[–] StillAlive@piefed.world 2 points 1 week ago

Damn, that's hilarious cause Valve has been hiring artists for their sales.

C'mon Lemmy, pick your fighter.

American DRM 'monopoly' (they hire actual artists) vs European DRM-free underdog (they post AI slop)

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Thr functional monopoly does not get to occupy thr "good" column judt because gamers can't help but fall, hungerly, on billionaire Gabe Newell's crotch.

[–] graynk@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 weeks ago

Does it get to occupy it for pouring their money into finally making gaming on Linux viable?
