Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

My friends in college knew I was gay before I did because of my love of Subarus.

I wish I could contest it but I can't. Same with cuffed pantlegs and inhaling hummus. Must be something biological lol

In my experience, the "car guy" actually has pretty low driving ability. That's why he has to spend $1000/mo on insurance.

[–] SomeoneSomewhere@lemmy.nz 15 points 4 days ago

A fair number have reasonable driving ability but still drive outside it.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 4 points 3 days ago

As a self-proclaimed driving enthusiast, this is 1000% true. lol

Also, i say all the time: being a "good driver" includes being a safe and attentive driver—not just being capable of speeding.

I would send this to my bi menace ex but it'd probably piss her off and make her crash lol

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 18 points 4 days ago (2 children)

All i do is subvert expectations, e36. But answering your question, WRX. Miatas are cool an all but they dont have that edge you know. Also i like station wagons but i do live in sweden so thats expected. Now tell me elder, does that car taste make me gay.

[–] JillyB@beehaw.org 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Well I used to have an e36 (with H&R cup kit and Eibach sway bars) and I'm straight so I guess it doesn't mean much. I also had a couple miatas and an Audi TT though so I might just be in denial.

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Oof especially wirh the TT, id look up "hot men" on the internet in your position. Also who knows, maybe youre a lesbian....?

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

no it's not the taste in cars, it's the swedish

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 days ago

Once again! I subvert expectations, hah. I live in sweden but im from eastern europe, tho i guess that doesnt help with the gayness but yeah

[–] InternetCitizen2@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

What's your take on motorcycles?

[–] AI_toothbrush@lemmy.zip 6 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

Ehhhhh not really a bike guy. I completely understand and accept the hobby but its not my thing. Cars are where its at for me.

[–] tr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I should’ve seen the bisexual signs earlier

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 4 days ago (1 children)

[–] tr0xy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 4 days ago

i really want a friend)

🫂 (reflex hug)

[–] ChicoSuave@lemmy.world 12 points 4 days ago

Car guy gets more autistic the higher up they go but don't have to social support in their lives to be allowed anything except allistic behavior so they mask all the time which makes them tired and standoffish. Car guys like analog puzzles. Engines are like Rubiks cubes that go vroom.

[–] luciole@beehaw.org 6 points 4 days ago

it’s all starting to make sense

[–] hildegarde@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Then why is ever subaru I see driven by a man or a straight couple? They said that was the lesbian car.

[–] Tyrq@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Depends on the Subaru, impreza with fart cannon? Dude trying to court ladies. Outback Forester? Lady wearing flannel to the wedding

[–] KaRunChiy@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

But what if I have a first gen forester? What does that make me?

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 1 points 2 days ago

Outback Forester

Fuuuuuck, why are these so specific and accurate lmaoooo

Get out of my house bwahahahaha

[–] possumparty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 days ago

outback driver here- i see so many old people driving foresters and outbacks. the younger queer people i see in subarus are usually in a crosstrek now. it's definitely not the rule, but it's it's definitely a majority
