This is a very weird fetishization of autism that does not reflect at all the hardships you have to go through as someone with it.

This is like saying ADHD people could run the world perfectly on hyperfocus while ignoring all the tradebacks like getting tf out of bed, and then the house, on time.

[–] jama211@lemmy.world 5 points 1 hour ago

Why is this bullshit fantasy so upvoted? It's honestly fucking awful, and this kind of fetishization is actually a bad thing

Clocks.. check. Trains.. check. Social welfare supports.. check. Clear communication.. check.

Switzerland with Pokemon.

I mean, yeah, sounds cool.

Hate to say it but I know more than a few who are on the spectrum and are assholes. One of my parents, for instance. Perfectly happy to hate on public works or social programs, and that “direct communication” made sure you knew it. Just because someone’s ASD doesn’t automatically make them want to better society for everyone else.

This tracks well. An ex best friend of mine who is AuDHD became pretty much a neo-nazi close to the time we kicked him out of the group. The reason he was kicked out was since he was sexting kids (who were a few grades below us in high school) a few weeks after he became 18. He also had a girlfriend, but rather than stay with her, he decided to cheat on her with minors.

Yep. I have an acquaintance like that. His special interests are conspiracy theories and racism. It's exhausting to be around that.

[–] GhostFace@lemmy.today 1 points 2 hours ago

Too many of them and too many of them are willing to use it as an excuse.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 7 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

My coworker is autistic and is kind of an asshole. Can confirm.

[–] endless_nameless@lemmy.world 9 points 23 hours ago

I am autistic and I am an asshole. Can confirm

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 3 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

I mean, at least you wouldn’t know it. That seems like an upgrade.

But then again, maybe not. Elon Musk has told us all the truth and no one seems to pay any attention to it. At least no one that matters.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 1 points 23 hours ago

ND are people, too.

Knowing it and choosing not to mask is definitely a thing. I’m sure plenty of us are “normal” and just have a hard time filtering information in and out when it comes to social settings - IOW we’re not assholes by nature. ND people can also be just like anyone else in that being an asshole is their normal state and also choosing not to filter it.

[–] HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah. I look at it as a lot of the priests performing inquisitions were likely on the spectrum.

[–] architect@thelemmy.club 3 points 23 hours ago

That’s an interesting thought I’m going to be stuck thinking about for the rest of the day. No I’m not autistic. 🤣

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago

Aspie supremacy is exhausting. It's not all downside, but there ARE downsides.

*high functioning autistic majority. Also

No delays

What

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 17 points 1 day ago

I'm not late. I always arrive exactly when I mean to!

Which is always at least 10 minutes later than I said, and 20 minutes later than I expected to.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 day ago

I think they mean the people in charge of maintaining schedules will be rigorously opposed to anything getting in the way of those schedules proceeding as planned.

Not that every ASD person is immune from ADHD.

[–] akwd169@sh.itjust.works 6 points 23 hours ago

Direct communication and no hidden meanings omg please yes im so bad at these silly mind games just use your mouth words

[–] deadymouse@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

Fantasies are of course beautiful, but you can't run away from reality.

Now when it says Pokemon, do they just mean the franchise or would we have found a way to make real, living, breathing Pokemon? 🤔

[–] biggerbogboy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 hours ago

Japan will find a way for the latter

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 4 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

"What if we genetically engineer pikas with the electrical nodes of an eel?"

"Hmm hmm how about we cross a shrew with a pangolin and make it really like digging in the sand!"

"I made a turtle that can jet water like a squid."

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Me standing there with a mime

Man, these are so much better than my idea.

180.000 autistic microbiologists spent three years doing normal research in pursuit of Catching Them All.

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Everything is possible with autism superpowers

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 2 points 23 hours ago

Except a healthy and robust social life.

You forgot how many of us are into the Animal Crossing games.

I don't think we would've gotten out of the caves or reproduced enough for it. 🤷

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 1 points 23 hours ago

Fuck yeah! I want autistic people to genetically engineer Pokemon!

[–] alexquiniou@lemmy.zip 1 points 23 hours ago (2 children)

I'm not sure about this one. Trump, Musk and so on.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago)

Trump, Musk wouldn't have been possible.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 7 points 23 hours ago

Musk yes, but I doubt trump is autistic as much as just a wholly bad person.
