maybe i'm stupid, old, stupid old, or stupid and old, but isn't it a BBC show? Why would it not stream on iPlayer?

[–] Spock1240@startrek.website 2 points 6 hours ago

It's geoblocked to the UK apparently

[–] ValueSubtracted@startrek.website 1 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

It is in the UK. The international streaming is what's up in the air, and it's of particular importance because the Beeb's financial situation indicates that they're either unwilling or unable to fully fund the show without an international partner.

for a long time, and I mean like 20 years, I've wanted to pay the equivalent of a TV license in order to access iPlayer. I don't really understand what the hangup is.

Damn. I was still holding out hope for that AMC/Sony rumour from a couple of weeks ago. Oh well, at least most of the (new) show is available to US viewers now.

This announcement seems oddly incomplete - maybe the hope is still alive?

I mean, they could still be sorting out details about a co-production deal, and not publicising anything until that's greenlit? We won't know until we do.

AMC+'s offerings will not include the 26 seasons of the classic series that ran from 1963 to 1989. It will also not include the 60th anniversary specials with the return of Tennant's Tenth Doctor, or the two seasons starring Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor that are currently streaming on Disney+.

Oh great, more fragmentation...

Nice to see some movement at last, though.

Disney: "The 2023-2025 Doctor Who episodes didn't make us the truckloads of money we expect from our investments, and honestly that spinoff smells too bad for us to ever air it."

AMC: "Okay, so you won't mind if we put it up on our—"

Disney: "AND LET OTHERS PROFIT FROM OUR OUTLAY?!"

Damn, if only there was some way to find everything in one place and maybe even download it so I have a copy locally and don't have to bother with streaming across the Internet... 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️

Honestly, your local library just might have it on DVD.
