That is a mistranslation. It wasn't cinnamon buns, it was hetvägg, a type of cardamom bun swimming in sweetened hot milk/cream.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adolf_Frederick_of_Sweden#Death

14 cinnamon buns would be rookie numbers

[–] RepleteLocum@lemmy.blahaj.zone 17 points 1 month ago (2 children)

They are really good. Just make sure the cardamom is mixed in well.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 29 points 1 month ago (3 children)

and that you're not a king of sweden

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Do you suppose he was trying to be the King of Sweets, too?

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A time-traveler, too? At that mass? Oofda.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Didn't you know? All kings are time travelers. ESPECIALLY the Swedish ones.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Ohhh, that's what No Kings is really about? That makes so much sense now.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Yeah, lots of anti time travel sentiment in the US population.

They have a hard enough time denying the details of their own history WITHOUT people just going to see for themselves!

(For the joke to work, please pretend that the parties are reversed)

I should've known that you, of all characters, would be familiar with atypical time manipulation. I mean, c'mon. You've an ironic anachronism (separated by centuries, no less) as your whole username. 😋

So, O' Timeline Berzerker in a Hand-Me-Down Hemp Toga of Mindfulness +2... what happens next? 🫣

You've an ironic anachronism

I've been called much worse 😁

So, O' Timeline Berzerker in a Hand-Me-Down Hemp Toga of Mindfulness +2... what happens next? 🫣

For my encore, I'll juggle the simultaneous beliefs in pacifism, that collective punishment is wrong, and that the guillotine for all billionaires is a moral imperative😉

Joking aside, though, my username is actually quite apt: I'm a big bearded guy from Denmark and I'm also a far left anti-authoritarian pacifist (with certain exceptions to the rule such as the above one) 🤷🏻

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

We're not too dissimilar, geophysically aside, it would seem. No note, other than Mr own personal preference to spell "moral imperative" in that context as "civic duty", instead. Also, for fertilizer; it's a wiser solution than simply eating them as the old saying goes, and the crops will reward us all!

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 month ago

I make sure of that every morning, just to be on the safe side.

[–] atopi@piefed.blahaj.zone 6 points 1 month ago

what if you are a queen of sweden?

[–] Rawrosaurus@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 month ago

They're amazing. I can definitely believe someone dying after eating 14 of them in one sitting though. I can barely get through one before I just can't eat anymore.

[–] Coelacanth@feddit.nu 14 points 1 month ago

Yes, and to add: hetvägg is the precursor to the modern semla, which is probably pretty much a national dish here now.

The traditional hetvägg is equally if not more delicious though, although quite a bit more involved to make.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

hetvägg

Heterosexual/hot wall? 🤔

A much sought after delicacy

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Second only to the bi version. 🤌🏼

[–] FiskFisk33@startrek.website 5 points 1 month ago

hot wall?

Given some cinnamon buns I've had in in my life, they could have just as well been heated drywall. ;)

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 54 points 1 month ago (2 children)

It said "after" not "because" and not "died of a surfeit of cinnamon/cardamom buns"

Maybe he was actually suffering from a cardamom deficiency and couldn't eat ENOUGH buns in time to save his life

[–] Catoblepas@lemmy.blahaj.zone 32 points 1 month ago

He was tragically on his 15th bun, which would have saved his life, when he expired.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 20 points 1 month ago

Weirdly similar experience - one time in the college cafeteria, where the policy was take all you want but eat all you take, I ate 12 desserts for lunch. The portions were small. I stopped at 12 although I was sure I could eat one more, because I wasn't sure I could eat two more and stopping at 13 seemed unlucky. Apparently King Adolf lacked my superior power of risk assessment.

It might not be a hard limit, 13 might be more like the LD50 of cinnamon buns, more data is needed.

[–] lord_ryvan@ttrpg.network 7 points 1 month ago

I volunteer!

Baker’s dozen for a reason

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

That makes 14 a Frederick's Dozen, then.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 month ago

Do not eat 14 cinnamon buns. You will surely regret eating 14 cinnamon buns.

[–] voxthefox@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

So that's where we get the bakers dozen from..

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 month ago

So who is going to find out how much of the 14th can be eaten?

[–] Slashme@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

We need a few more experiments before we can determine an LD50

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

A baker's dozen of Cinnabon probably won't kill you immediately. The renal failure, on the other hand...

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 month ago

Someone send a few to Trump? That old fart has no self control.

[–] slingstone@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago
[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

To Cinnabon I go…

[–] thingAmaBob@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

And I thought two was too many

[–] Coleslaw4145@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Did the buns kill him? Or did he just die of syphilis or something while on a bun binge?

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Too much cinnamon i guess. Is too much for the liver.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 1 points 1 month ago

Death goals.
