I think more people should know about this. I didn't know the Irish Council for Civil Liberties had a division called Enforce.

Johnny Ryan is doing incredible work. I'm also horrified by what Irish "regulators" have allowed big tech to do in the EU.

The big tech reckoning in Europe is already at hand.

But Ireland did get too comfortable with the Google money, so hopefully they can ween off of it without crashing the market.

Ideally this would create a boom of Irish-born services.

Big tech is getting some heat for anti-competitive practices. But the algorithms are still tearing the fabric of our societies, regulations and laws are not being enforced etc. I think the bulk of the work is ahead of us.

Edit: I've just been reading actually about some regulations being enforced so to counter my hyperbole I'll add it here: https://www.straitstimes.com/world/europe/court-rules-eu-must-drop-strict-curbs-on-facebook-marketplace

We are fucking sell outs. Wont pass decent legislation protecting workers. Wont reign in big tech. Take russian money.

Should be ashamed of ourselves.

Yeah, that's all true.

US big tech are Irelands biggest export and employee. Minister for justice has already stated that he is pro-chatcontrol which is a big tech lobbying favourite. Ireland are far too dependant on them, especially with digital sovereignity growing in Europe. They run the very real risk of having the same thing happen that happened to Michigan unless they start looking at all of their options.

Honestly, yes. It’s such an act of betrayal. I have gotten complaints from people when I travel about our conduct, but I’m surprised it’s not more publicised. It should be news IMO.
