To all women "not taking care of themselves": I still love you.

I thought women's hygiene products were more expensive because men and women's skin are different. Men have thicker skin on average and women have more sensitive skin on average or so I thought
Sadly not. It‘s they idea that woman are not loved, if they don’t buy the best cosmetics. The first time this (obviously made up) concept was successfully used in marketing was a hundred years ago:
[James] Young realized that improving sales wasn’t a simple matter of making potential customers aware that a remedy for perspiration existed. It was about convincing two-thirds of the target population that sweating was a serious embarrassment.
Young decided to present perspiration as a social faux pas that nobody would directly tell you was responsible for your unpopularity, but which they were happy to gossip behind your back about.
The ads in this time were surely something else. And years later a similar method was used to advertise AXE/LYNX bodyspray
how bout we mock most men for putting in zero effort beyond covering their bodies and showering occasionally
What further would you have us do?
I already washed my balls last week.
In seriousness though, I wash every day twice a day and wear clothes and shave my head and trim my beard. Deodorant too cause damn I stink
What else is there?
But muh depression...
Well… giving all the shit we give women also to men is also gender equality I guess
One thing that initially attracted me to my wife was that she never wore makeup. Still doesn't.
What is going on with this meme in this comm. Just block each other ffs.
Yes and no. Many women do reinforce the stupid pressure as well as piggish men. There shouldn't be a need to spend anything above and beyond normal hygiene and self-care, IMO, and there are many products that do not suffer the "pink tax", etc, that improve someone's looks. So, it IS a touch self-imposed if you're constantly paying that "pink tax". (same goes for the absolute dumbasses that buy the DUDE wipes over normal freaking wet wipes)
For an extreme example in a similar vein, see JoJo Siwa reinforcing child star abuse (or how ever her shitass name is spelled). She went through the same shit, but because she came out on top, she denies it's bad. Same goes for a lot of "pretty" women.
Turns out many humans are morons in general and easily manipulated into paying more than they should or dealing with shit they shouldn't.
You said „yes and no“, but I can’t find the „no“ in your reply. What you describe, summarises what I wanted to point out with this meme. I also wanted to call out people who make fun of women who are not in a situation to go against this system. I think it’s ok though to mock people who profited from the system and are now saying „There’s nothing wrong!“
The "no" part is that it is generally possible to have excellent hygiene and makeup without paying for the crazy expensive brands and things. There are of course still quite a few products (like the DUDE wipes) that leverage the perspectives of fools to pocket some extra money. Although there are often plenty of cheaper options with similar quality, if not better.
It shouldn't require extra effort to find the quality that doesn't include such things as the "pink tax", but such is capitalism: If the price can rise, the price will rise. Probably in step with some advertising campaign to try and convince you this product is toootally worth the markup, promise!
The gendered bullshit goes both ways. For example: men’s clothing is way more expensive than women’s for some reason.
I‘m not sure about that:
In the UK, women and girls were being charged on average 37% more for toys, cosmetics, and clothes than their male counterparts.[12]
I think it's because adding the pockets costs extra.
Seriously though, men's clothing is typically a lot more durable.
Sewing is one of my wife's hobbies, so I know it can't cost that much. Maybe they know we only buy shit that lasts because we hate shopping.
