Seems unfair to compare the dreadful 2016 MacBooks against anything, tbh.

2016MacBooks Georg, who lives in a cave and has 10,000 hardware issues each day is an outlier and should not have been counted.

Reading through the article, it looks like they accounted for relative age here. It's not all that surprising, since it is well known that Intel Macs run hotter than ARM Macs. That extra / higher amplitude heat cycling has to cause some increased failure rate.
