An unofficial chapter of the popular Dull Men's Club.

1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

It must be how I sit because it doesn't happen to my right foot.

This is due to the Coriolis effect. In the northern hemisphere the sock rotates clockwise, and in the southern hemisphere it will go counter-clockwise.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 5 points 15 hours ago

OMG, it's THOSE SOCKS

I have several multipacks of those, and while some of my other socks rotate around some, those light grey hanes with the large red letters will not stay put.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

Is this inside your shoe or walking around in your sock feet. One of my feet turns out a bit (maybe due to a knee injury when I was a kid) and my sock would do this.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The sock topologically rotates because it remembers the wash spin cycle and the dryer.

It becomes entangled.

Socks which disappear in the dryer, well, they just do the equivalent of rotating beyond gimbal lock, in hyperdimensional space, of which our reality is merely a 3D shadow.

... the 'quantum spin' theory of 'socks doing somewhat odd things'.

[–] ivanovsky@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Then explain the right sock, nerdddddddd

[–] Vex_Detrause@lemmy.ca 1 points 12 hours ago

The right socks spin faster and it’s right side after 12 hrs.

You mean quasi-sock

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

... what right sock?

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Just get a new foot so this stops happening. I have some old, discount feet if you want one for cheap. Most are Australian, though I do have some Maltans in here, somewhere.

[–] hactar42@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Since I'm in North America will they route the other direction

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

East coast or west coast of North America? Or are you Canadian?

[–] hactar42@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago (1 children)
[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 1 points 9 hours ago

Well that's redundant, but that's where the money is. The fame is on the west coast of North America.

[–] JustAnotherPodunk@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Pics? I may be interested, but I need to know if they are quality or not. Gotta make sure I'm not getting scammed.

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago

Bro, this is the internet. If you want to look at feet, you can do that. Just don't look at kids' feet. That is unacceptable and I will have to contact the authorities, so I'll leave myself a post-it note or some shit.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Officer, right over here.

(an offering of officer feet for your collection)

[–] Impractical_Island@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I wanted pig feet, I'd take pictures of my own

Ah yes. The philosopher's sock. Sockrotates.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 2 points 11 hours ago

Bravo sir 🤌

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

I’m totally using this on my adult children.

[–] goodgame@feddit.uk 6 points 1 day ago

I had holes in mine so I took them to a tailor. "Euripides" he stated, "Eumenides?" I asked.

[–] faintwhenfree@lemmus.org 31 points 2 days ago

Wittiest joke of 2026. Bravo.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Looks like you're making too many left turns.

[–] P00ptart@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

me getting lost in a fallout game

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago

It's actually your foot rotating inside the sock.

[–] lessthanluigi@lemmy.sdf.org 30 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Finally, some dull content!

[–] hactar42@lemmy.world 23 points 1 day ago

When I pointed it out to my wife and she just replied with, "I don't know what you want me to do with that information," I knew it was perfect for this community

There's a small beetle living in your shoe whose sole job is to slightly inconvenience you in any way possible. It has arrived on this method of podiatric torture.

[–] Elgenzay@lemmy.ml 29 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Think you're due for an alignment

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Yeah, it's a combination of toe-in, and negative camber.

[–] oce@jlai.lu 45 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The skin mites on your left foot socialized and joined forces to shift your sock so they could share the most nourishing parts.
The right foot's ones may be more individualistic.

[–] XeroxCool@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

You said "how you sit" which makes me think you're not walking much. Do you rub your feet on the floor, carpet, shoe, other foot, etc? Stimming like that can rotate my socks, but I don't have it happen when walking. I don't exactly rub them in the same way

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 day ago (2 children)

You may pronate on one side. It could be fixable with orthotics.

[–] Lemminary@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah, yeah, definitely. I know some of these words!

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 14 points 1 day ago (1 children)

These come free with your arch distro

[–] Eggymatrix@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)
[–] ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Mine came free, just $25 in shipping and service fees

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

Why would you get them in any other color? I mean, every toe is a different color. That's not going to happen with black or blue socks.

[–] adarza@piefed.ca 31 points 2 days ago (2 children)

that's a special feature of hanes socks from walmart.

If you are lost in the woods just follow the direction of your left sock otherwise you'll end up walking in circles. /s

[–] Nighed@feddit.uk 13 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (7 children)

Has the quality of the socks decreased? My last set of those was awful. (Switched to Tesco's workman's socks, last forever)

Anecdotally, every article of Hanes clothing I have ever worn has been of remarkably poor quality.

How you walk as well maybe. Get scientific about it and keep a notebook where you track the position and what you were doing at the time.
