What's with all the downvotes? I swear there has to be vote manipulation going on with some of these threads.

Itt, I struck a chord? Not sure why I'm being downvoted.

It's a community only instance. If two big instances defederate from each other, then those users can still visit the same old community. I also don't have to follow any rules set by admin which don't really apply to dull content in the first place. Plus I just like growing the fefiverse and the idea of decentralization.

If I subacribe or visit any communities elsewhwere then those will show on the all feed on my instance. So I just have an admin account over there.

It gives you a bit more freedom in that you can federate or defederate with whatever instance you want, you can make your own communities that are free from other instance admin descisions like fed/defed. Less risk of losing your account.

I own dullsters.net but I keep it "pure" by not using that account out here. That way any outside visitor to the site only sees dull stuff.

For me it has been very little work. We'll see how the 1.0 update goes.

I saw that a user was banned by moderator on my instance and their comments removed. I don't have a moderator, it's just me, I'm the only user. I thought I accidently fumble fingrred the ban button and restored their comments and appologize. Come to find out that they were banned from their own instance.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand it's good if it's a really bad user posting spam or worse. On the other hand it is a conduit for censorship. If an admin doesn't like what you post on another instance, then they can censor you everywhere. On top of that, it makes it look like I am banning people, and I don't like that at all if they're just making normal comments. It should say something else and I should get some kind of alert that lets me know so that I can decide if the comments on my instance are appropriate.

I'm the creator of !dull_mens_club@lemmy.world

I created a whole new dull instance for dull people.

!dullsters@dullsters.net

Do I need to do anything to get emails to send from my lemmy instance? I have the site up and running, but emails won't send. I'm using Digital Ocean as my server provider.
