I haven’t refilled my Adderall in over a month because I can’t remember to make an appointment until I’m in bed trying to sleep.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

If it's just remembering, have you tried setting a reminder on your phone while in bed to remind you at a reasonable hour?

If it's the wall of "I need to do this, but inertia is holding me back" I got nothing but words, I understand the difficulty.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 2 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Omg you’re a genius. I’m going to try a reminder.

I think the problem is a little of both, but can’t hurt to try.

[–] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Unsure if this was a sarcastic reply, but I used to send myself delayed text messages, until my phone decided to ignore incoming messages from myself. It bypassed the ever growing queue of reminders. If you have a reliable person, you could send them a delayed text to remind you, but that gets tricky.

Normal reminders don't work for me, so I've had to get clever

No I was serious. I don’t know why that didn’t occur to me.

I'm currently experimenting giving up on trying to get your shit together, it's quite a good life but it's still really hard not to make choices that have undesirable effects. Especially if those choices have desirable effects in the short term. Speaking about short term gratification, i should really put away my phone and go to sleep.

Look into Taoism so you can convince yourself your maladaptions and procrastination are the third way, thus your existence is "together"

It don't work but it's fun

The Te of Piglet might be of some help. 😌

[–] optimisticturtle@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago

Some amount of get your shit together is hustle culture grindset that you need to be productive 24/7 and can be safely discarded. Some amount of it is within your control to change and some amount of it is due to a neurodevelopmental disorder and you just have to accept and/or find workarounds for.

Have you tried making a list?

[–] TwodogsFighting@lemdro.id 5 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I don't know where I put it.

Get the magnetic ones you stick on the fridge, and a magnetic pen. And get a business binder for work, the kind that holds yellow legal pads. Then you always look like you have your shit together even if you forget to make the list.

First off, how dare you attack me like this

careful, they're NSA

Some of them even work for a week or two. But sustained effort? No thank you.

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Let's not forget the "How together does my shit really need to be anyway?" phase, that's my favorite

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 5 points 6 days ago

My ADHD is Bristol type 1

[–] Zorsith@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Or endlessly thinking about the endless cycle...

[–] HappyCatLuvs_U@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Between cognitive behavioral therapy and meds, I can work 25 hours a week and still generally keep-up my apartment as long as I'm not in a funk.

I still be eating wwwaaaayyyyy too much fast food though. Don't even want fast food. At a point it's kinda mentally gross even if physically very satisfying. Just don't wanna cook. You're telling me I gotta cook and then EAT TOO? I have ibs so 90% of frozen and fast-prep options are out. :(

[–] Lj404333@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

I get this with fast food and healthy food, to the point it's mentally gross. I then eat far too little. Ibs and ADHD, always with the conflicts, can't my body just agree on something

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 6 days ago (2 children)

I fixed this by just eating straight ingredients and stocking moderately healthy stuff

No cook, only eat

[–] HappyCatLuvs_U@lemmy.world 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

I really should get over myself and start doing this. I do on occasion when I'm really struggling. But for whatever reason, maybe just mental obstinance, my brain really wants like a main and two sides on a plate with a nice drink. Otherwise it feels like it's not gonna check the "eaten a meal" box considering I eat mostly out of habit and less from ever actually getting a signal I am hungry.

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 3 points 5 days ago

Yeah it's easy to do it non-committaly. Like just have some frozen spinach or broccoli in the freezer. Microwave for 4 minutes in a bowl and add some feta cheese and put it on toast if you're feeling energetic. Easy deconstructed spanakopita

[–] Lj404333@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

It can get expensive but it does the job

[–] Zarobi@aussie.zone 1 points 6 days ago

Expensive how? If anything I've found it cheaper to do that. Especially since most ingredients freeze well so I don't have to shop as often

[–] forgetfulmeat@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

When I don't want to cook I grab a rotisserie chicken from my local kroger and a couple of their sides. Cheaper and healthier. Cooking at home, especially from scratch, will always be the best way to go but it sure is time consuming when you're trying to keep up with capitalism.

[–] HappyCatLuvs_U@lemmy.world 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Yeah my go to is rotisserie chicken, canned corn, and the pre-made refrigerated mashed potatoes.

I gotta start breaking down the chicken and portioning the meals at the start of the week though because even that when I get home at the end of a day is like, damn. I gotta open a can of corn, take about half, take a third or so of potato container, cut or rip the chicken off the bone, put it on a plate microwave it, season it. Like damn.

[–] forgetfulmeat@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

I can't tell you how many times I said I'd start meal prepping lol I'm still trying to start.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 4 points 1 week ago

And some work ! so it's worth it, to cast aside any doubt.

[–] nsrxn@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 week ago

I truly found org-mode is a constant in my life for the last 12 years, and if I want to get something done, I need to put it in my org mode todos.

  • step one: learn emacs
  • step two: learn org mode

so uh... like 6months of hard work, then life is easy
