Viewing a site with a layout and style that doesn't rape your eyeballs is now "bad behaviour."
Those are the only two fucking reasons to have ever used Old.Reddit.

If you want to rewrite your comments you should do it while you still have the chance with something like power delete suite, since it relies on old.reddit.
Best method in the past was getting GDPR files and doing it with shreddit, but getting api keys is hard now.
Those tools don't work. Reddit just restores the comments. Happened to me a dozen times.
It worked for me. Comments never came back even years later and checking old comment links with gdpr files.
I think reddit has a limit on the amount of comments that can be viewed through your profile. So you won't be able to delete everything in one go if you have thousands of comments.
You'll have to do one run rewriting and then after deleting the comments it can. Then wait and do it a few days or a week later when the profiles repopulates it with the older batch of comments that weren't available before.

For me it was getting banned for commenting "Rothschilds" and nothing else, on a video news report Post about a majority Jewish city council voting to defund public schools in the majority black neighborhoods. At one point, the camera zoomed in on a nameplate of one of the city council members... Rothschilds.
I saw it and posted a reply, seemingly without thinking... "Rothschilds".

So many people with similar stories. They didn't even give me a reason, my account was old.
That's a weird take. If they fuck up old reddit much more I'll just stop using reddit. Or I could stop using it preemptively. There's nothing coming. It won't affect me much.
I deleted my account and 13 years of posts manually over a time and still have the Login cookie for the old account in the browser. You can still view old reddit with it. That said the content is so bad there it's generally not worth it.
I still use Reddit as it still provides a bunch of things the FV doesn't at this time, but at the same time I welcome another wave of refugees when the evil empire pulls their next major boner.
That said, I'm not sure we're quite ready for them in terms of specific communities having healthy active readerships and active mods. Maybe they can help revive what's become a load of dormant c/'s across the FV, I don't know.
I dont think many old users are still on the platform. Look at thr platform growth and its eclipsed the old.reddit years. They will lose a few million but theyve got hundreds of millions using the new ui
There's the proposed theory of 90% of the community are just lurkers, 9% contribute occasionally, and 1% contribute most of the content.
Might not seem like it doesn't matter, but depends on who are the ones submitting most of the material to the site than lurkers.
Doesn’t matter. They’ve been replacing the content people with repost bots and AI bots for years and most people won’t notice if half those power posters leave as a result. Many of the power posters would stay on Reddit anyways short of being charged $10/post simply for the feeling of being important which they derive from being influential.
Thats not even getting into how the US Air Force has been astroturfing Reddit for over a decade with most active city Eglin Air Force base and would therefore put paid effort in to keep it afloat and their psyops reaching minds. Heck tons of organic posters leaving gives them a chance to seize mod positions and make trustworthy names for accounts under their control.
I stayed away from the general popular subreddits that tend to populate /r/all preferring to stick to either hobbyist and tech related subs. I haven't noticed much change when it comes to places like emulators or roms for example mainly going there to check the wiki and when myrient went down people backing it up and making Minerva.
So I guess if it is the general trash subs that the twitter crowd congregates along with news, the bots and stuff might be more apparent with it being about karma, trying to go viral, and manipulate what users see. But, the more resource oriented ones like Linux or buildapc still seem to be less affected with people there just trying to help out.
I only go there to ask in Japan-related subs about tax/business/legal questions and try to help others (though I've mostly stopped). Several of us tried to get the people to move but they won't. Without the knowledge that some of the people (some of whom do related legal/accounting work for a living and others with decades of experience), there's no point.
I think you're right but I also have to imagine the old. users are disproportionately contributing quality parts and replies to the niche communities that make reddit "sticky".
I'm ok if reddit keeps the users that want an endless feed of memes and low effort content.
I think if they manage to fuck up old.reddit.com that would have a bigger impact on people looking for alternatives than the API changes had as that mostly affected posters.
I never understood old reddit, why is it so loved?
Easily blocked ads, no account required. No profile pictures. No "modern" UI that's slow and takes up huge chunks of whitespace for no reason. No stupid features like chat taking up space. No related posts taking up space in the comments. Also old.reddit supports custom CSS so every subreddit can have their own custom theme. Remove everything unwanted from the new site and app and you're basically left with old.reddi5

For me, it does not hide comments by default.
It's the only way to actually use the website in a reasonable manner.
Before phones and mobile apps became the norm, people browsed reddit on a desktop browser, and old.reddit is formatted to work with that type of view. No-frills, more efficient use of screen real estate, and everything is easy to reach. It’s the people who used reddit when it was like that who are loyal to it.
Nowadays, most reddit users probably don’t even know that it’s a website, and they only know it as an app on their phone. And the new reddit interface is optimized for mobile, which is terrible and inefficient when browsing on a desktop.
I used reddit back then and mostly on the firefox. Broswrr and I like the new ui too

I think reddit problem is not ui. It is many many other shit.
Old.reddit UI fills the entire width of the screen, and default view is compact. You see more of the feed at a glance without having to scroll as often. When it comes to comments more of it is displayed when it comes to nested comments before clicking.
New reddit takes up a lot of space. And clutters up the side with stuff like related posts when you check the comment section.
Another big one is reddit enhancement suite which lets you tag and block things only works on old.reddit.
I don't get it either. I exclusively used Reddit via third party apps. Never once had any desire to use old.reddit.
It was the dumber, non Web 2.0 version of the site. It didn’t have any of the new UI’s user activity data harvesting apparatus or progressive loading features or fake posts (ads) or Adblock mitigation and so forth. It looked like a 2000s website but anyone who used Reddit in that era wasn’t going to care. Redlib is better if you need to check something on Reddit.
This confirms the reason they haven’t shuttered it already is because they still rely on it for their codebase
