Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

the animorphs series is free btw

[–] glitchdx@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

And if you don't want to read 200 books that each have less than that many pages, I'd recommend the Elemist Chronicles, probably my favorite book in that setting and much more substantial than mainline series books.

Get over Harry Potter, the book was shit then and it is now.

Seriously, the only redeeming quality is how whimsical the Wizarding World is, the actual story is bullshit, and since the whimsy goes away after the third book in favor of "Edgy Bullshit" for books 4-7, there isn't a lot of whimsy to enjoy

[–] captain_oni@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have the theory that if it wasn't for the movies, the series wouldn't have gotten a fraction of the popularity it has.

Specially the music. I think the score did most of the heavy lifting in giving the movies that "whimsy magical feeling"

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

Indeed, Harry Potter is marketing hype that's it, as a kid I only read Sorcerer's Stone cover to cover, then I moved onto Redwall.

"But my childhood!"

Uh how about my life right fucking now? Assholes

[–] nobodysreadingthis@quokk.au 33 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

No, sorry. I need to feel like I'm 9 again, and your life doesn't really... 'matter'. I didn't know you when I was 9.

I'm drinking nestle™ hot chocolate while I re-read the only book I've ever read too, if that makes you feel less lonely.

[–] jambudz@lemmy.zip 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Drinking hot chocolate made with child slavery. Good ole nestle

The actual post for those interested. There's more data and the user is writing a book on the anti-trans movement

Yeah it couldn't be clearer that she's the UK wing of the same politics that the other billionaires like Musk and Thiel are pushing. Must be something that they all cooked up together on Epstein's island.

she also threatened bullshit uk slaap lawsuits against amnesty international uk to bully them into pulling the report on the gender critical movement -> https://archive.org/details/report-a-growing-threat-the-anti-rights-movement-in-the-uk-july-2026_202607

Peter Theil's secret society, but yeah.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 50 points 3 days ago

"Yer a bigot, Rowling!"

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 23 points 2 days ago (1 children)

What the fuck is her problem? Did she get diddled by a trans person or something? Is she that closeted!?

[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 27 points 2 days ago (1 children)

She wants to be a man, and blames trans woman for it.

[–] birdwing@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)
[–] QueenHawlSera@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago (2 children)

She's talked about how she wanted to be her father's son before.

[–] Echolynx@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

So internalized misogyny is her projection onto the rest of us.

Who even uses X? Aren't most of these just bots feeding off what she posts?

[–] lyrial@anarchist.nexus 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The answer, sadly, is literally most people with an internet connection and a desire for social media. And that fact makes even more people use it due to the network effect.

A lot of people sadly, though, it's probably true there are a lil too many bots which then also drag humans in the shitting

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 29 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Liberals call it a "centrist" position. She's just "reaching across the aisle" and all that.

[–] BeardededSquidward@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Reaching across the aisle to kill trans people.

This is like a full time job for her. Except she is also paying for it.

[–] the_q@piefed.social 26 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (6 children)

This informs why she continues to be mentioned. If people stopped interacting with her she'd literally go away.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 49 points 3 days ago (3 children)

If people stopped interacting with her she'd literally [go] away

That's true of literally everyone, though.

Unfortunately, she's a billionaire with a lot of clout and powerful friends, so it's highly unlikely that everyone will just start collectively ghosting her any time soon.

Those of us who see her for what she is doing so is still a good start.

[–] vzqq@lemmy.blahaj.zone 41 points 3 days ago

Also, she may be riding and amplifying the current wave of transphobia, but the rot runs deep. Especially in the UK, where even supposedly progressive parties and publications are just salivating at the thought of hurting trans people.

JKR is not the source of the poop. She’s just the largest turd.

Once you're a world-renowned creator of a massive multimedia franchise and a billionaire that lives in a castle and uses your vast fortune to create legal troubles for a marginalized group and for anyone who points out you're persecuting said marginalized group, there's no amount of ignoring that will make you go away. The only way to make her go away is to aggressively fight back against her bullshit.

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 13 points 3 days ago

That's not how lobbying works.🙃
She’s paying for this entire network of hate.

See, this is why you do have to be so harsh to bigots; they're so easy to energize that only a few need to get through to have a negative impact.

[–] commiunism@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago

great woman theory

[–] Manalith@midwest.social 12 points 2 days ago

So far there's only one book, but if you want a fairly cozy read, I liked The Wizard's Butler by Nathan Lowell
