I read to sleep.
post
Right now I prefer reading, but for a while it was Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Nothing. By separating sleep time and TV time, I'm less likely to fall asleep before I'm ready, and I fall asleep much faster when it's bedtime.
Not a show but a movie, And I use it to take afternoon naps.
U571. I really like the movie.
There is a scene right in the beginning of the movie where Matthew McConaughey greets a family at a wedding/ball I generally fall asleep right there and wake up 45 minutes later with the first torpedo attack.
It’s wild. It’s almost like a Timer, I used to take a nap.
Futurama
I can't sleep if there's any sort of talking. For some reason I can't tune it out and my mind latches onto every word
My ex would go to sleep to those CSI and true crime murder porn shows and I'd be laying there, mad, exhausted, with a pillow over my head, but still invested in whether or not the over-helpful neighbor was the real killer.
It's been a while, but How It's Made. That guy could put anyone to sleep
Bad habit, your brain needs a lack of talking heads when you sleep.
If silence doesn't work for you, try something with steady noise. Some use white noise generators, for me it's the whir from an air purifier.
This is ideal, some people can't shut off the voice in their head, so the next best thing to silence is listening to someone else who isn't talking about whether you'll find a job tomorrow or a boyfriend or ask about that growth you just noticed on your leg....
This was how I felt until the tinnitus started to get more noticeable. Variable soft sounds are great now.
I don't often, but Drifting off with Joe Pera.
None. Can’t do it. If there are voices some FOMO bit of my brain has to listen to what they’re saying and I can’t sleep.
I do listen to music sometimes, for some reason lyrics don’t have the same effect on me as speech.
Adventure time
Bee & Puppycat
Mushi Shi
So there's this Youtube channel called Astrum
They used to do episodes of How It's Made for the UK with a nice soothing accent that seemed tailor made to send me to sleep. They stopped showing them so I tried to watch the original American versions but (and I apologise) but the voice is horrible so I switched to reruns of Bullseye from the 80s but now I don't watch TV before bed.
What ever interesting but too long video YouTube happens to be recommending at the time. Though if the title tells me to go to sleep watching it, I'll pick another.
Last time my girlfriend and I had the flu at the same time, we spent our days on the couch, snoozing in and out of consciousness, with Bob's Burgers on the TV. We felt so shitty, but Bob's Burgers made it all a little less shitty.
Military defence procurement channels. Theres one I like starting with p that does hour long videos. Great to watch great to fall asleep to.
Road cycling races. In particular sprint stages from the grand tours from Eurosport or TNT/Max streaming. The coverage for these races is typically over two hours long, and there are no commercial breaks. There's very little action until the final 10 minutes or so, so the commentary is fairly monotonous until then. I just make sure to set my TV's sleep timer to shut it off before then.
i just pick a folder or an existing playlist and hit random. but the best things for me because they help mask noises (yes, the ones in my head mainly) are musicals (such as annie) or movies with lots of background music (disney movies are good for this) or old-school multi-camera sitcoms for the laugh track (newhart, mary tyler moore, patty duke, etc).. the other common thing between them is it's all stuff i've watched a lot so it's very familiar. if it isn't--i'm more apt to try to watch than to doze off.
Only for napping on the Couch: Everybody hates Chris.
That Show was there when I was deep into my depression. It just Ran on tv. Didn't Like it at first, but it grew onto me. Now I know it very well and that comforts me.
I do not watch TV to fall asleep, too stimulating. I read for a little bit, but mostly just try to close my eyes in silence.
I would love to get an oled or whatever gives the blackest blacks because I like putting on one of those sleep things with either fireplace, campfire, rain or light storm, fierce snowstorm outside, or waterfall. I follow the seasons to so I prefer the waterfall or light storm in summer and fireplace with snowstorm in winter.
Nowadays I'm married, and cuddling my wife and listening to her breathing are generally all the help I need to drift to sleep, but back when I was living alone I'd throw on either a playlist of Mystery Science Theater 3000 episodes (comforting old ones I'd seen a zillion times and could zone out to) or the eclectic online music station Radio Paradise.
I've always been pretty good at lucid dreaming, and in those days having some dream scenario randomly interrupted by the soothing voice of Radio Paradise owner Bill Goldsmith doing a song intro or the wisecracks of MST's Tom Servo and Crow T. Robot would help clue me in that I was dreaming.
I don't, but I'll listen to a podcast or audio book before I settle down to sleep.
I've never really had a TV in my bedroom so never got into the habit of having the TV on while I'm sleeping
