wireless display under linux? (piefed.social)

hi, i am currently looking for an alternative for a tablet pc and i was wondering if there's a way to set up a wireless display under linux? and if you could recommend a display and adapter or a manufacturer that'd be much appreciated too?!
looking for a dumb display or monitor without any functionality besides being a wireless display. maybe 8" diagonal (16:9 or 16:10) and it doesn't even need a battery (in fact i'd prefer if it was wall power only).

Not sure if it's a good fit for your use case, but I'm using gnome-network-displays to stream to my TV. It does Miracast and Chromecast. There's some lag, though. Not sure if that's my old TV or the protocol, but it's mainly good for streaming videos.

    Well, my TV has that built in. I just start the Screen Share app. Sorry, I don't have any experience with Chromecast and those dongles...

    I feel you wouldn't have asked for wireless displays if this was an option... But what I did for my laptop and desk is: get a plain old (used) USB-C dock, for about the price of one of these dongles, wired that up to my speakers, monitor, LAN... Now I have to connect one cable to the laptop and it's connected to everything, plus it gets charged. Doesn't require any configuration whatsoever and as a bonus I tested some other people's laptops, my phone, and they all work.

    Probably not all that great if you use a tablet like it's meant to be used... I mean I put my laptop down on the desk and use the keyboard, so I'm not worried about a cable attached to it. If you want to hold a tablet in your hands, this might be annoying. I get that.

    I'm afraid it's either GNOME Network Displays or missing hardware acceleration on Linux, because streaming from Windows on the same TV does not have the lag I experienced with Linux :/

    I could never get Gnome Network Displays to work, but it's worth a shot.

    Not really a solution specifically for a tiny screen like 8'' but you could search the web for point-to-point wireless HDMI extenders and see if that is something that could work for you.

    There's no dumb wireless display, that product category doesn't exist. Not that it wouldn't be possible; there's also "dumb" wifi-connectors around (you "dial" the IP via it's pins) but nobody really uses that in products, they all run a whole OS for wifi.
