Focus on what's in front of you. Focus on what you CAN change. Make small, improving moves each day and over time you will be living a completely different life.

Determinism only technically makes the future unchangeable. Since there's no way to know with certainty what the future will be, there's always the possibility that, for one reason or another, you will attempt to change it from what you think it's going to be, and discover that it was never actually going to be all along. Since humans have no way to know the future and inheritly think in terms of actions and potential consequences, and since the processes that lead to human action presumably also are determined to occur, determinism provides no incentive to act any differently from how you'd act if the future was unset.

Q: How can Sagan, Tolle and Mustachianism help us live simpler lives, transcend the unhelpful ego ways and see that this is the only time we have to be conscious stardust, the cosmos looking at and learning about itself?

Carl Sagan, Eckhart Tolle, and "Mr. Money Mustache" (Mustachianism) offer a powerful toolkit for simple living by combining cosmic perspective, presence, and financial independence. Together, they strip away the superficial anxieties of modern life, dismantling the ego by showing how small, yet profoundly significant our moment in the universe truly is.

Of course you can fucking change the future.

Are you currently employed? If you go into work and tell your boss to fuck off and you quit, you have HUGELY impacted your future.

Or if you take some time for hobbies, self-improvement......... just wipe down your stove to make your habitation a little more habitable - you've improved your future.

The future is changeable as more people get involved to change it

    I think it's Capitalism.

More people need to refuse enacting the jobs we all know are ruining the world.

If you're building anything for a billionaire, from a mine, to a yatch, to a compound, to an AI data center: FUCKING QUIT LOUDLY.

...and we need more jobs in areas tht help the world. Planting plants, checking wildlife, doing pollution checks, checking workplaces are obeying the laws and regulations, putting uo solar panels, designing and business parks, hospitals, homes, and schools.

Perhaps most importantly if you're starting a business doing these things. I know that hierarchical Capitalism isn't good or ideal, but ultimately it's driving a lot of the horrible things in the world, from lobbying to AI, and we have to turn that shit around somehow too.

"Getting involved" can't just be about protesting or "stopping the bad direction" - at some point we need to go in the good direction too.

People saying you can't change the future a month before an important midterm where we have a chance to flip the government out of the hands of a bigoted fascist who has literal camps is a pretty shitty take...

Like, this is the worst possible time for doomerism.

Even if you're convinced voting doesn't matter, it's worth the effort just in case you're wrong

A lot of the worst people in America are spending a shit ton of money to depress turnout, big nothing else vote just to spite billionaires and trump

Worry is always useless. If you worry over something you have control over, then take the necessary steps to control it instead of worrying; and if you worry about something you have no control over, your worry will not change the outcome. In all cases, time spent on worry is wasted time.

Instead, be like me! Blithely apathetic.

    Line from old mate Gandalf:

"So do I, and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us"

I can change my future significantly, and I can impact society's future slightly. My worry regarding something should be proportional to how much control I have over it, I think that's reasonable.

Invest in your mental health, y'all. Recognize the toxic environment you're in and purge depressing content like this from your feed. Be active in curating a better experience for yourself.

Virtual therapy is cheap as hell in Mexico. Psychologists are available. I pay like 35 a session

OP, no shade. I get the sentiment but most of your content is super depressing. Hope you feel better soon

I appreciate the sentiment, but I tend to like darkish humor with a clever turn of phrase. It makes me smile, and there's comfort in commiseration.

Also, perhaps you shouldn't be looking for positivity in a community called a boring dystopia

I'm a determinist so, yeah, I agree, I don't think you can change the future. But I don't think it does any good to be depressed about it. We don't know what the future's going to be, but I don't think it's guaranteed to be a dystopian nightmare. I think there's a good chance the future could be hard, but hard times can bring about a lot of important changes.
