It's called a day off, not day on.
The trick is to make the stuff feel like things without letting the things feel like stuff.
Ohh my whole unemployment since April! I start work next week and I'm on here instead of finishing my to do list...
Removing distractions helps, from my experience. In my case at least, I usually leave the phone running videos and podcasts I can consume passively, no need to focus on it, on PC I use RSS to quantify the accumulation of posts and stop when I open the posts past that (since I have a backlog there too), and consoles I leave turned off when I'm not playing them.
I used to schedule all these reminders for things I intended to do. They just made me irritated and feel bad as I kept delaying / rescheduling them. I don't do that anymore, for the most part. I've stopped keeping track of the things I won't do. If I think of it, I might take care of it. This only works because I'm now in a relationship with someone who makes sure I do the things that matter most.
As I am on dialysis, I have a nutritionalist on my "care team".
I have tried repeatedly to explain to them that I fucking KNOW what I need to do, it is the DOING that is the issue.
Yes, I have tried alarms. Yes, I have tried post-it notes. Yes, if you can think of it I probably have tried it.
Haven't worked for the last decades, and am still at "oh no" and "I did wanna do chore X" 😁
Alcohol is what you need
It might work great for some, but personally I choose not to drink. Alcohol gives me literally zero benefit, but I will end up with a headache after just one drink, plus it’s empty calories I don’t need.
I've occasionally used alcohol to wind down a couple times before, but I'd say drinking on all your off days is still something to avoid. Can't risk getting addicted to it, even when [and especially when] alcohol makes you feel more sane.
The only reason I have it sometimes is for the nice flavour pairings when mixing with non alcoholic drinks, but it is best practice to know and care about how much you're drinking.
