Nex Computer is the company behind the NexPhone, an upcoming smartphone that doubles as a pocketable computer running Android, Linux, and Windows 11. While the project was first announced a whole 14 years ago, Nex Computer recently published a development blog update revealing a Q1 2027 launch, indicating that the NexPhone will launch around March 2027.

Neat. Hope to see how it goes. A fully Linux phone would be nice. With google locking down phones soon, I predict we will see lots of Linux adjacent phone variety pop up.

I still want to know if the wiiphone is a good one or not.

  • 14 years. That's a long time to be disappointed about the Nex still not being released. Release it, and we can talk.

You don't need a dedicated phone for this. Most modern Android phones have this capability.

But it's still good to see options.

Linux is more open than Android. Hell, you could argue Windows is in its own way. At least you get Admin on Windows and can do whatever you want with it.

Yeah but it will be a Linux VM running within android, being android the primary os monitoring and controlling everything else. I doubt it will be a de-googled android.

I can easily boot the Linux VM on mine, it's a google feature. But it's controlled by google, and they set the limits. AFAIK there's no easy way to get a desktop output.
