BBC asks US federal judge to compel Trump’s lawyers to schedule deposition after his team canceled initial session

The BBC is asking a federal judge in Florida to force Donald Trump to sit for a deposition as part of the president’s $10bn defamation lawsuit against the British broadcaster.

According to a Tuesday filing, the BBC and Trump’s legal team had agreed for him to be deposed on Friday. The BBC’s lawyers wrote to the judge that they have spent months trying to secure a location for the deposition from Trump’s team.

On 28 September, Trump’s lawyers told the BBC’s counsel that the president “is no longer available for his deposition on October 16 due to other matters of national importance”.

They realize that Trump just ignores laws he doesn't want to follow, right?

Good luck with that. We can't get judges to force him to do jack shit because there's no legal mechanism to do so and/or nobody has the spine for it. If you can get him though, feel free to keep him.

Keep a deposition team posted at his favourite golf course, available at his earliest convenience. Post daily updates.

He could always drop the case if it's too inconvenient for him.

American courts are pathetic. They're complicit in being used by POTUS to punish unfavorable reporting.

Sounds like he's getting a UK judgement against him that he won't pay like all the others. My only concern is that might be a pretext for an invasion in his deluded mind. The American tourists in London are bad enough already.

It's a US court, and since the BBC is the defendant, them winning just means they won't have to pay anything. Unless they're counter-suing I guess, I haven't looked into it that far. IANAL if that's not obvious lol

We send all our weird TERFs there. Sorry, I don't make the rules. Canada sends us their worst and most reactionary comedians.
