after further research, fuck apple. even windows somehow has better interoperability with other systems, with making recovery media, virtualization, and just basic, basic shit.

Apple has in their TOS that you can only run macos on apple hardware. Even virtual machines.

Apple is the problem here.

Ever heard of Hackintosh? That's the length people went to, to run macOS on unofficial hardware. Virtualized hardware unfortunately has the same issue.

I subbed to /r/hackintosh ages ago for some reason, and while I don't go to Reddit very often these days, when I do I'd see a post in the feed saying "Success: Running macOS 26 on ...blahblahblah"

And all I cold think was: How is that a success?

I have a MacBook that could have legitimately run Tahoe, but I kept it weeelll away. Sequoia 4 lyf.

The only success I've ever had with virtualizing MacOS on a non Mac host is using VMWare Workstation with some unofficial patch to make it think it was running on a Mac host and enable the option to run a macOS guest. And that took a bit of faff to get working too, no idea if it still works as a method
