This year is sad (lemmygrad.ml)

I was in a relationship with a person for 3 months until they broke it off because they appearently were not ready. Despite that we stayed close. We'd watch anime every night, play video games and just talk about the everyday mundane stuff that people talk about when they are close. Good morning and night messages. This weird grey area situationship continued for about a year. Lately I noticed they just didn't seem that interested in hanging out as much, they'd still talk the same amount but suddenly their time went elsewhere. I thought that was odd. But we'd still play around or do stuff here or there. And suddenly it got better, we hung out way more, great! And then today I accidently stumbled on a picture of them with another woman in a very affectionate and close way. I think a part of me deep down believed that maybe we'd be together again when they got better and cleaned up their life like they said they would. Thought maybe it would work out. I feel like a fool. They seem to treat me as someone special. The way they talk, the things they do. Offered to pay for broken appliances. I made them something and they still use it everyday. And then there's just.. that picture. I can't shake the picture out of my mind. It's just extremely painful. I thought I mattered to them. The woman in the photo, they never had a photo like that with me. Never that close. Calls me petnames but never that close. Doesn't know I've seen the photo.

Anyway that's enough devastated rambiling. What do you guys like to do when you're sad? I've got a couple anime and movies lined up.. I also got some new books.. I don't like to ramble and vent but the year has been tough. I hope it's been treating you better than it has for me and I hope all of you are well. It's tough right now but we'll make it out okay. If you have any recommendations for shows/movies or books I'd love to hear them.

maybe i'm dumb, i need some explanations and context:

a picture of them with another woman in a very affectionate and close way

are you talking about more than two people (a threesome?) or some person who identifies as them?

if it's the second option, i'd think that for this person you're maybe some "emotional tampon" with benefits (if you made the good stuff) because "they" see you as emotional support to deal with their true relationship that is not going so well. if that's the case, maybe you made the mistake to create a soap opera in your mind that you were "the one" and this person doesn't feel the same way and you're something to have some fun meanwhile they're trying to repair their "true relationship"

They are currently questioning their gender identity and prefer neutral pronouns for now or perhaps indefinitely. When refering to them I'm speaking about one individual only although I can understand the confusion.

I do agree with you, I think that I have become some sort of emotional caretaker for them. They unload their burdens and worries on me and because I'm a fool, I always cared for them despite the weird grey area nonesense as if I was their actual partner. I'm not sure how deep the connection with the other woman goes but it's clear that their affections are not exclusive to me which is a painful realization. They have only refered to the woman as a friend but they seemed awfully friendly in that picture. What's worse is that what right do I even have to complain given the fact that we have broke up and we have split apart in theory. I can't exactly say "Hey don't do that!" Or demand explaination because I am owed none. Despite that I don't think they are a villain or an intentionally cruel person. Just a confused person who doesn't know what they want and ends up hurting the people they claim to care the most about.

I think there is definitely some kind of soap opera in my mind though. Everytime they would do something for me I would think that it meant something special. That I was special to them. I can't really blame myself too much though because they very much encouraged that idea. It is an exhausting situation. I begin to question if perhaps the photo is some grave misunderstanding or that it doesn't mean what I think it means. Anything to keep myself in the soap opera. At the end of the day I came to the conclusion that they most likely just accept affection from whoever is nearest and available and I was both of those things even after we broke up.

Have you seen Project Hail Mary? It's so incredible I've actually become obsessed with it. The film and book are different from each other but both amaze.

That really sucks, I'm sorry to hear that. I'm in kind of a similar situation myself 😔

Honestly I just get high and try and take my mind off things by watching something funny or playing a game that requires a lot of focus. It's hard when you have AuDHD cause of rejection sensitive dysphoria and rumination and stuff like that. Hope things get better for you.

I'm sorry to hear you are in a similar situation. It is definitely not the most fun experience. I have been newly diagnosed with AuDHD so I can relate to that as well. I think you're right the moments where I am fully distracted and invested in something are the moments I am more at peace. Less time to think about everything. I hope you are managing okay as well. It's hard but we'll get through it and be okay in the end. ❤️

Sorry friend. Situationships are awful. I like to make really dark or depressing electronic music when I’m sad. Noise music opened me up to a whole new perspective on music.

Thank you. Yeah it's been a rough time and I haven't fully processed everything but I'm getting there I suppose. I also enjoy sad electronic music like that. I'm a bit unfamiliar with noise music though, do you have any recommendations? I'm very curious now!

Not from the above mentioned categories, but music instead.

    Depeche Mode. It might help.

I welcome music too! I do love music. I've given Depeche Mode a try and I really enjoy it so far! My favoruite songs are "Precious", "Wrong" and "A pain that I'm used to" but I'll definitely listen to more. I enjoy the sound and vocals a lot. Thank you for giving me something new to explore, do you have other recommendations? It reminds me of a band I like called Twin Tribes, I have heard of Depeche Mode before but I haven't listened to them very much. I'd recommend Twin tribes them if you like a similar sound!

really sorry to hear that comrade, i know what it feels like to feel betrayed. i hope you feel better soon.

whenever i feel sad and need to feel sadder, i watch the film inside out haha. when i need to feel less sad i do things like journaling, meditation, or general relaxation.

Thank you I do appreciate it a lot. It's hard right now but perhaps organizing my thoughts with journaling will help me get a handle on things more. I'll definitely get some relaxation in too. I've never tried meditation but I'll give it a go! I've also never seen inside out I think I'll add it to the list of movies I mentioned. Thanks again!
