Looking back at the almost-a-century of Israel's policy on this I'd say we're way past calling it "attempted".

There's plenty of proof that Netanyahoo - and not only him - want the esacalation, so they can justify their atrocoties:

"They're fighting back? Good, start phase 2."

Pretty much everything Israel has ever done has been proving Israel was a "mistake" (a settler colony doing settler colonialism isn't a mistake, but the lack of one).

It's going to be like with the Native American genocide: 100 years later everybody will be on their side and say it was a big mistake what happened back then, if only we could turn back the clock...

I mean, nobody with the power to do so is trying to stop them; why would they stop?

So far the West Bank has been loosely organized militias (with support from IDF, presumably, but in a more backseat role).

If they begin striking the West Bank the same way they pummel Gaza, then things are going to escalate quite a bit.

It will not be the same thing that's currently happening in the West Bank. It will be far far worse.

This is the old part of town, its very low income area, its also have some troubles between clans (sometimes).
