RULES (updated 01/22/25)

  1. Be respectful: no harassment, hate speech, bigotry, and/or trolling. To be concise, disrespect is defined by escalation.
  2. Encourage conversation in your OP. This means including heavily implicative subject matter when you can and also engaging in your thread when possible. You won't be punished for trying.
  3. Avoid controversial topics (politics or societal debates come to mind, though we are not saying not to talk about anything that resembles these). There's a guide in the protocol book offered as a mod model that can be used for that; it's vague until you realize it was made for things like the rule in question. At least four purple answers must apply to a "controversial" message for it to be allowed.
  4. Keep it clean and SFW: No illegal content or anything gross and inappropriate. A rule of thumb is if a recording of a conversation put on another platform would get someone a COPPA violation response, that exact exchange should be avoided when possible.
  5. No solicitation such as ads, promotional content, spam, surveys etc. The chart redirected to above applies to spam material as well, which is one of the reasons its wording is vague, as it applies to a few things. Again, a "spammy" message must be applicable to four purple answers before it's allowed.
  6. Respect privacy as well as truth: Don’t ask for or share any personal information or slander anyone. A rule of thumb is if something is enough info to go by that it "would be a copyright violation if the info was art" as another group put it, or that it alone can be used to narrow someone down to 150 physical humans (Dunbar's Number) or less, it's considered an excess breach of privacy. Slander is defined by intentional utilitarian misguidance at the expense (positive or negative) of a sentient entity. This often links back to or mixes with rule one, which implies, for example, that even something that is true can still amount to what slander is trying to achieve, and that will be looked down upon.

I'm going to travel internationally for the first time thanks to a work trip. Stressed but excited!

Anybody have any "must-sees" in Taipei?

[–] CheeseToastie@lazysoci.al 3 points 2 days ago

Mate that's so exciting! Hope you have a blast

I'm going to keep working.

I'm self employed and if I stop working for any significant period of time I get anxious about how much work I have to get done.

Yes. Is shit.

Ahh yes. The evil business owner. Who's only thought is ripping off their staff, and stealing all their time.

Only a business owner knows how very wrong that idea is, and the real truth.

Try and take a break. A good break over the weekend. Sure reduce the Monday load, but take some time also.

[–] null_dot@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

Yeah. There are plenty of evil CEOs and also evil business owners, but most small businesses are just normal people trying to be fair and make their way.

We're doing ok.

I'll def get some time off over the weekend but it feels great to smash out a few jobs over the weekend.

I'll probably rot in bed and try not to eat anything for 2 days because i won't have the energy to go to the gym.

40hrs a week makes me want to die so I have to spend all other time trying to decompress.

I've found prolonged inactivity to be a bad recuperation from 9-5. By all means, rest and do nothing productive if you want, but don't close yourself at home the whole time

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Earlier this week I had the energy to do a gym day and enjoy a couple hrs of games or reading.

I can feel it today that all I will want to do after another 8 hrs today is be unconscious.

Im just so tired boss

Do my best to at least wash some clothes. My plans were cancelled

Tomorrow I have a combined training, bike+running, a light one, for the race I am training for ad the end of the month.

Sunday I will need to swap car tires from winter to summer set, as its again that time of the year.

On top of that, the usual chores like go grocery shopping for the week, walk the dogs, play with the cats...

And one unusual social dinner Saturday night, as me and the wife tend to be not so much social lately.

Managing an ant infestation.

[–] perspectiveshifting@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

In the house or somewhere else?

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Indeed in the house. It's a 150 year old house or something close to that, so it's not surprising to have ant issues, just annoying.

Volleyball tournaments in Philadelphia, PA. My daughter plays for the 757 traveling team out of Virginia Beach, VA. So, crowds, uncomfortable chairs/seating, noise, cheering, eating out, hotel rooms, then the Sunday escape from Philly.

[–] Xaphanos@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Saturday will be rainy, so mostly getting my Mom ready to move in with my sister. She's in her 80s and can't quite live on her own anymore.

The plan for Sunday is to get some progress on rebuilding my deck. It's sat half-finished over the winter - my wife is losing patience.
