A big ol pile of shit.

Death, mostly death.

I often wondered how nazi germany happened given the democracy and find myself caught up in the process despite my best efforts and the efforts of many people I know.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (4 children)

The only efforts that matter going forward is for people now to give up their own comfort to secure the future for others. Either we trust each other with our lives or we forfeit our futures to authoritarian rule. I maybe only have another 30-40 years left. 20 years of "healthy" living. Its not me who's losing out big.

Id happily donate those years to a cause that was real and not just talk. If my only choice is to lead it myself, fine, but someone needs to start following.

Violent protests probably. Even republicans don't want fascism. But there is nothing we can do without a hero assassin... At least 3 of them actually.

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 day ago

Even republicans don’t want fascism.

Um, sorry but have you been paying attention for the last eight years?

The people left in the GOP are driving at full speed towards a fascist dictatorship. It's not Trump, it's the entire cadre of sycophants and Nazis he's set up to protect him.

Laura Loomer's "Alligator lives matter" didn't suggest that? Nor the fact that she was celebrating the creation of a new concentration camp to round up and possibly murder ALL Latinos in the US? (And selling merch to go with it!)

What about Kristi Noem filming propaganda in front of cages full of prisoners in El Salvador?

The six SCOTUS judges who are eagerly giving Trump every immunity and power he wants?

Ron DeSantis creating a second one-stop deportation centre?

The US Republican Party ARE fascists, and are ecstatic over how things are turning out.

If you call yourself a Republican and are against this, you're either a hypocrite, or a liar.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Even republicans don’t want fascism.

A “Trump Boat Parade” in Jupiter, Florida, on Sunday was joined by neo-Nazis waving swastika flags, shouting “White Power,” “Heil Trump,” and “Make America White Again!”

What's been truly revolting is in watching how many liberals have jumped on the fascism bus. Kristen Gillibrand is fully in bed with the Silicon Valley techno-fascists. Richie Torries can't get enough genocide, whether its via our migrant concentration camps at home or our outsourcing of genocide to the Middle East via Israel and Saudi Arabia. Sitting Democrat NYC Mayor Eric Adams has gone all in on MAGA, after receiving pardons for his chronic misuse of public office and funds from the President. Gavin Newsom is flirting with Charlie Kirk and Steve Bannon as a podcast host. Half the 2026 Texas Dem Congressional slate is fully in favor of turning the US/Mexico border into the new Iron Curtain. The Florida Democratic Party wants a Bay of Pigs 2.

It's Italy in 1924 all over again. Oops! All fascists.

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 42 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Yeah people thinking the Democratic Party is going to save them are delusional IMO. They are part of it and many of them have been working towards the same goal. They are a false opposition at best. Not all of them, some of them are legit, like Bernie, and look how he has been treated by the Dem establishment. Any real resistance is marginalized.

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (7 children)

I thought the dems could save us in 2016. I then believed they would save us in 2020. The last chance I gave them was 2024.

Ill vote in their direction only in the hopes they can hit the brakes but, overall, they prove again and again they enable this shit and take no interest in stopping it.

[–] spankmonkey@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

I have been voting against Republicans for nearly 30 years and still have yet to see Dems hit the brakes. They do let off the gas some of the time, and since they are the only ones who have a chance of winning they get the vote by default.

If voting wasn't so quick and easy where I live it would be difficult to convince myself to put in the effort. It should be this easy everywhere.

some of them are legit, like Bernie

It's really telling that every time somebody wants to point out that some Democrats are still decent, they cite an Independent

Violent protests

this is what the fascists want. any excuse whatsoever to declare martial law, impose curfews, 'papers, please' checkpoints, and 'papers, please' thugs going door to door, looking for anyone they don't like so they can send them to the concentration camp.

thoughtcrime doesn't entail death, thoughtcrime is death

[–] Netux@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

They said it before trump was sworn in. It will be a bloodless coup of the left allows it. The options are fascism or fight.

[–] ryanee@fedia.io 32 points 2 days ago (7 children)

I keep hearing this so often "they will take any opportunity to declare martial law" this so often its starting to sound like autogenocide

[–] lurch@sh.itjust.works 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (3 children)

yeah, that's a weak reason against violent protests. stronger ones are:

  • the violence is often misdirected at people not able to bring change, eg. small businesses or cars.
  • the violence exhausts protesters. many of them being crippled or killed by police, until the protests are suppressed by too few motivated protesters being left.

btw cops love violent protests. they get to kill maim and torture more people than usual. it's what many of them signed up for and look forward to with excitement. sometimes they have off duty cops in plain clothes infiltrating protesters to start the carnage. all it takes is throwing one stone near a collegue with shield and helmet to give him an excuse to go on a rampage against innocent protesters, while the infiltrator sneaks off

[–] Netux@lemmy.world 2 points 16 hours ago

Cops like it when it's them being violent. They don't do much when the opposition is armed and not concentrated in one small easily controlled area.

We're already at the thoughtcrime stage...

Funny how Republicans online were the ones crying about that, but now they're salivating at the idea of deporting Mamdani for the crime of being a socialist. Can't have those political opinions, that's wrongthink!

Things are going to get real fucky.

Those in power will be unable to trust each other and their employees even less. We may end up living where we work.

Diseases will be widespread, and no care will be offered to anyone but the privileged.

Famine, likely entirely manufactured, will cause massive amounts of starvation.

Modern conveniences will be slowly lost. Cars will be falling apart because no one can afford mechanics, and the lack of vehicle regulations leads to excessive accidents.

Planes will break up midaire. Widespread blackouts when shit goes sideways. Forget about medicine.

Waterways will be polluted beyond what can be boiled. Breathing in big cities will be hazardous. They will say "efficiency" but not one instance of efficiency will be observable.

Kids showing academic excellence will be abducted and sent to special indoctrination schools so that they can only benefit the regime.

Women will have rights removed. All men will have to do a two year duty in war. Church attendance will be reported to the government.

I have more ideas but I'll stop there

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Strikes me that you've forgotten about the rest of the world.

[–] oppy1984@lemdro.id 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The rest of the world isn't coming to help as long as we only hurt those within our borders. No one stood up to the Nazis until they started moving on other countries, even though they were already known to be committing atrocities. The rest of the world is just going to cut us off and let us burn, most of the world hates the U.S. and only plays nice for economic and military reasons.

[–] swordgeek@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's true, but some of your dystopian ideas require the entire planet to fall into collapse and ruin. Eventually the odds are pretty good that the rest of the world (assuming we're in decent shape ourselves) will start to provide humanitarian aide to the US.

And stating that "most of the world hates the U.S." is definitely a sign that you don't quite understand how we feel about the US.

[–] oppy1984@lemdro.id 1 points 19 hours ago

I guess I've just given up and assume everyone would just cut us off. I've really only seen negativity twords the US, so that colors my view. There's also my buddy from Japan who advised me to say I was Canadian when traveling internationally due to the negativity he's seen directed at the US when he's traveling Asia and Europe.

[–] brendansimms@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago (1 children)

damn homie are you the heritage foundation

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 10 points 2 days ago

I mean I could be. 13 year old me thought of most of this stuff during his hormonal days

Those who make peaceful revolution impossible make violent revolution inevitable.

[–] aseriesoftubes@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (7 children)

Brain drain. It’s already started. Academics, scientists, and researchers are moving to Canada or Europe to do their work. As shit gets worse, the upper and middle classes will start to do the same. The underprivileged and undereducated will fight for the scraps of what’s left.

[–] pinheadednightmare@lemmy.world 22 points 2 days ago (4 children)

Eventually, the world will get tired of our shit and do something about it. It will not be pretty. Mainly economic suffocation…. That’s the only way the rest of the world can hurt the US.

[–] blackbirdbiryani@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Except y'all have nuclear weapons and the rest of us mostly don't. When you're done with your local genocides the US will inevitably turn outwards for a scapegoat.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Given how well that worked with Russia, yeah don't expect much help.

Yeah, Lemmy, what does the future look like?

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago

Bull. I don't even get to have a double jump implant installed but I still have to deal with corpofascism. This is all a total rip-off.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

We're not good with it and we hope it's not too late to turn it around. And no, I don't know how so there's no point asking me.

[–] Rooskie91@discuss.online 17 points 2 days ago (4 children)

If your curious what the right is pushing for go ahead and check out The Turner Diaries.

If you actually finish the book, wait for your rage to subside then arm yourself.

So I actually just kinda answered this as a "joke" in another thread, but essentially:

The future: fascists, racist robots, billionaires, more fascists, bombing civilians, cutting science funding, the earth is on fire, more fascists, cutting HIV study funding, more racist robots, gutting artistic employment, more billionaires, fried donuts.
