I got perma banned for saying I hoped Marjorie Taylor green trips and swallows her own head.
Bye Reddit
A memorial for the front page of the internet. If you have left reddit or is considering leaving then this community is for you.
There’s also a blog documenting the rise and fall of reddit as well as news and thoughts on the whole issue.
It serves as an archive for posts and topics in case reddit decides to delete anti-reddit posts within its platform.

I got my perma ban from saying "only a matter of time before Elon gets united healthcare'd" was on there since 2006.
Damn, is there really that many people getting banned? I've heard a bit about what's happening but didn't think it was a widespread thing.
This was announced by admin so it's definitely widespread. Turns out they hadn't even considered that someone can edit a post or comment and that you could be banned for upvoting something which, at the time, had no "violent" content.
So, one could theoretically go into a conservative subreddit and use comment (or post content) editing to bait-and-switch them into upvoting a death threat against spez?
My final straw with Reddit was a year ago, with an r/askreddit question, "Now that the Supreme Court has given Presidents immunity, what's the funniest thing Biden could do?" I answered, "Shoot Donald Trump." I caught a strike for inciting violence, appealed it, and got a clearly automated reply upholding the strike. Made a Lemmy account that day and never looked back.
"Shoot Donald Trump" is the funniest thing Biden could have done.
It certainly would have helped him turn the debate around.
I came here when all the API drama happened, and I didn't even use third party apps, I just decided that I didn't want to help make that greedy little pig boy any money. Even still, I'm actually shocked that they've cracked down this hard. It's hard to take serious, because it seems like they would destroy their userbase with this, but they're doing it.
I also came here when all the API drama happened. I also checked out Sqabblr, which had a different name at first. There wasn’t much here and I was confused by the fediverse. I went on Facebook and that was a hot mess of garbage.
I went back to Reddit recently and it’s noticeably worse - probably a combination of chasing away great mods and our world just being what it is makes for people being awful at each other rather than at problems.
I’ve just come back here this weekend and there seems to be more resources to help me understand the nature of the fediverse. Ideally I won’t be back to Reddit.
Sorry to ramble, hope you have a great week!
Squabblr’s the one where the owner wuickly outed himself as a right-wing transphobe and caused a mass-exodus of early adopters, wasn’t it?
If that happened I missed it. There was never much traffic so I rarely checked it. The participants never came off as intolerant.
Yeah, the vibe was definitely left-wing before, and it was a shock to many of the more prominent members. You started getting the appearance of subs which were “this is to discuss how Jews control all the money globally” and prominent members who avoided saying anything completely explicit on the site, but whose twitter accounts would reveal them to be prominent members of swastika-using Nazi groups.
The owner declared himself to be “a free speech absolutist” and that he wanted to promote conflict on the site and a lot of people, myself included, just went “yeah, I see where this is going” and left.
That’s crazy. I haven’t been able to log in recently but it sounds like I’m still not missing anything worth experiencing.
I’ve no idea if they’ve changed course again. I went there out of curiosity after this post but it’s all hidden behind a log in screen and i couldn’t be arsed to sign up or try to remember or find my credentials.
But since you don’t really want to hide your content if you’re small and trying to grow, I’m going to assume that it’s insular and doesn’t want people to stumble on its content.
Got perma-banned from a 15 year old account for joking about Elon Musk needing to get Luigi-ed. Fuck that place. Never going back.
Ya I had a 12 year old account and 90% of my posts were about electronics and chemistry stuff. 90% of my comments were responding to people asking questions about my hobby stuff. Permabanned for enciting violence, when Trump said he wanted to annex Canada and I said we needed to prepare for war lol. FUCK REDDIT.
Similar situation here. Nice to see all the like minded folks though!
I got banned for harassing a mod
I still have no idea what they were talking about
I was on reddit for over 10 years
If we ever get our hands on the data, I think it's probably a safe hypothesis that most of the banned users are anti-trump.
Gotta make reddit a safe space to support his reign or emperor Donny will have a temper tantrum and Spez is easily frightened into submission
I got banned for harassing a mod

Here is how that works; a subreddit mod bans you, preemptively or otherwise. The mod-list for the sub is now permanently hidden from you. Subreddit mod(s) spam posts to their subreddit. You report post(s) you genuinely think are violating the rules over the course of a few months. Without realizing you are reporting one of the mods. A few more months go by. Reddit finally reviews your reports. The admin assumes you are harassing the mods of that sub. Receive escalating suspensions until banned.
Subs pushing Far-right, Russian and Islamic propaganda use it pretty effectively to silence anyone speaking out against their racist bullshit.
I finally made the jump. Hi all.
All the commenters sitting in the circle replying in a monotonous voice: Hi Blorps!
Don't forget to offer them a can of beans on their way in!
Their can of beans, complimentary jeans, and guide on how to not poop for three days are in the mail.
I use Arch, btw
Hello blorps!
Hey, please stick around. Do not let the small number of subscribers demoralize you. The communities are small but active.
I tried coming over during the API drama, but seems like there are way way more users here now!
Yeah, that’s what caused me to switch. I’m pretty happy without reddit. I might open it once or twice a year or when Duck Duck go sends me there for my trouble shooting question.
I'll give you 1000 internet hugs for every troubleshooting question you copy into the appropriate Lemmy community.
Happy cake day 🎂
Welcome!
Hi blorps!
Yoo!!
As much as I want to move away from Reddit completely, so much of information I search is from Reddit (because regular SEO results are trash so I always search on Reddit instead). Does anyone have any suggestions to other alternatives?
Use old reddit and ublock origin and you're not giving them anything useful by just looking stuff up. Reddit is going to be less and less useful in this regard as time goes on, though.
Ive been using redlib to browse hobby and TV show subs for awhile now and I like it better than old on mobile for readability. Theres a list of public instances on their github if anyone doesnt want to selfhost or test it before spinning it up themself.
But yes old.reddit redirector and ublock origin always get installed on Firefox right away.
Edit: I installed https://libredirect.github.io/ on my devices and life is good. You might want to shop around for default instances for all the sites you have active, or host your own to avoid throttling
