MODERATORS

Rightwing influencers in the US who are often aligned with Donald Trump are angry that a joint justice department and FBI memo has dismissed the existence of a “client list” in the case against late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

The disgraced financier killed himself in a jail cell at the Metropolitan Detention Center in New York City in 2019 while awaiting prosecution on child sex-trafficking and conspiracy charges.

Almost ever since, Epstein’s death has been the subject of conspiracy theories on the right, including a supposed “client list” that he purportedly used to blackmail wealthy co-conspirators.

I absolutely love that this is breaking the minds of some trump supporters. Maybe it will open their eyes to the reality of how bad and corrupt Trump is. But also I give it till the weekend before most if not all fall back in line with whatever theory Fox News, Joe Rogan, or newsmax say to switch the narrative.

[–] Deflated0ne@lemmy.world 8 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I am not a right winger. I'm a leftist.

I want the list leaked. Every single name exposed. And everyone from anywhere who's there needs to be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest.

Even if there wasn't an OPSEC failure like a list. There was video. Feed that shit into an AI. Let it scrape for faces and redact everything else. Nobody needs to watch thousands of hours of CP looking for who did what. Investigate. Prosecute. Execute publicly. Make it a spectacle. Let the surviving victims who want to do so smash their heads with sledge hammers.

They're making fun of the idea that extreme ends of the political compass end up having similar ideals. Maybe people just want pedophiles exposed and dealt with.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 hours ago

Just memeing on people who like to post that whenever right wingers and left wingers want the same thing.

They’re only mad because they want to see if any Democrats are on the list.

[–] BluJay320@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 1 day ago (1 children)

killed himself

No, he didn’t

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I always thought the belief was that he was ordered to kill himself, not that someone did it for him. Like Frank Pentangelie in godfather 2. Like a “kill yourself or everyone you love dies” type of thing

[–] markovs_gun@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It really doesn't have to be from someone else. Lots of people kill themselves after being exposed as pedophiles and realizing that they're about to go to jail for it. He could have easily just bribed the guards to let him kill himself and anyone else involved would still have a vested interest in keeping evidence suppressed.

[–] WraithGear@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Except it wasn’t his first time being exposed for that, right?

[–] Madison420@lemmy.world 1 points 19 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

Convicted of state level crimes in Florida, but no federal crimes far as I remember.

[–] Bwaz@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Right. It wasn't like him getting locked up was a surprise. And if you're gonna off yourself, there are a lot of less painfull ways to do it (if you still have the opportunity) than hanging.

Almost ever since, Epstein’s death has been the subject of conspiracy theories on the right, including a supposed “client list” that he purportedly used to blackmail wealthy co-conspirators.

On the right? I think that it’s at the whole spectrum, the differences are who are believed to be on the list.

Doesn't surprise me that the guardian wrote this. They always seem to be a bit out of touch with reality and supposedly they're left leaning newspaper as well, but I don't think they've caught up with current affairs just yet.

https://epsteinsblackbook.com/names/donald-trump

Donald Trump is listed in Epstein's black book on page 80.

Epstein recorded 10 phone numbers and 2 addresses under this name.

The main address for this entry is in New York, US

Uh, erhrm, yep, nope, just a coincidence, or something.

Also, fuck you, shut up, stop asking about it.

https://youtube.com/watch?v=dwAGUbpHPBY

...

This is the most incompetent cover up of all time.

There is a mountain of evidence, and indeed literal legal rulings pointing toward Trump being a serial rapist, that he'd walk in on 15 yo girls in the changing rooms for Miss America paegants, that he was very good friends with Epstein for over a decade...

The first time him and Melania had sex was on the Lolita Express, on Epstein's jet.

Trump is so fucking extremely obviously in the Epstein files that, after this, this fucking farce of 180 about face, I am now inclined to believe that Trump is the one who ordered Epstein be killed.

[–] CosmicTurtle0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 22 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It's not incompetence.

It's indignant.

They know they are getting away with it and there isn't a fucking thing anyone can do to stop it. None of his followers are going to stop worshipping him as a result.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 1 day ago

Technically yes, indignant is more accurate...

But that does also kind of loop back into being an incompetent cover up... if one assumes the concept of a cover up is to actually make the entire issue just go away.

And... I do actually disagree that none of the magats will snap out of it.

Its actually causing quite a lot of chaos and anger.

Will all of them suddenly realize they've been duped, and then magically become better people?

No.

But ... this whole Epstein thing, its a pretty big fucking deal to a lot of the people that got on board with Trump largely due to QAnonsense conspiracy theories...

Its now actually breaking the cognitive dissonance of a lot of them, who've been waiting for Trump to finally rout the Deep State of pedos... who are now either realizing that Trump just is another powerful pedo, or at least covering up on their behalf.

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So we know the black book exists, yet the White House is insisting it never did lol

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This website has existed and been up for the better part of a decade now.

If you were unaware of this, then uh, you are not immune to propoganda.

This has all been known for years, publically available for years, its just that right wingers invented an entirely fake media environment and narrative universe all built on denying every single well documented connection between Trump and Epstein.

Also, technically... this is a contact book, an address book.

It doesn't 100% mean everyone in it went to pedo island, went on the pedo plane... but its a very obvious starting point to connect to other more specific kinds of evidence.

Specific evidence that obviously exists, becauss it was used and cross referenced in Ghislaine's trial... but most of that evidence was never released to the public.

This unredacted copy of the contact list was also not supposed to be released to the public in an unredacted form... but someone leaked it, and someone (else? presumably?) made this website.

most important cover up

Well, probably a few panama papers type things we dont know about.

Edit: i am a dumbfuck who can't read.

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

While I didn't actually say that, yeah, I would agree the Panama Papers are probably more important, and yeah there's probably worse shit going on.

Hell, personally I'm still convinced the CIA killed Kennedy, one could argue thats uh... rather important.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Sorry, misread. Incompetent. Yes. But damn that's a crowded field these days. All the spy dudes being mormons who were raised on ultra campy james bond films does not breed general competence. You need either some fucking color (which can't hapoen, obviously) or more ice chewing fun hating hypernationalist puritanical esoteric fascists mixed in for a competent intelligence service.

Do you remember the signal chat from like 3 months ago?

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago

Oh yeah, I remember.

I also remember DOGE accessing and likely comprimising SIPRnet...

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 57 points 2 days ago (4 children)

was happy when I checked r/conservative yesterday (I know I shouldn't check). and practically all the comments were about how they were disappointed, or actually starting to understand that Trump is in the list or protecting his buddies.

However, when I checked today, lots of top comments were peddling a conspiracy theory about how Trump is under threat of the deep state, and if he releases it he and his family will get murdered. There had to be some AstroTurfing injecting conspiracy theories.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

r/cons is almost always run by russian mods and bots.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's distopian seeing the propaganda machinery turn on.

seeing reactionaries having a day to think for themselves, then come to their own ideas and... nope, they just turn on the propaganda machinery, no independent thought.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

the russian bots drum up the shit stirring in that sub. theres like some other subs ive seen, donald, republican, newnormal, trueunpopularopinion that popped last year.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

it's just so plainly obvious that there is so much AstroTurfing, how dumb can humans be.

(rethorical question, human stupidity trully is an unlimited resource)

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 21 hours ago

and yes the normal politics, news and other subs get astroturfed to an extent.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 30 points 2 days ago (1 children)

When they say Reddit is all bots they're not kidding. Especially the "mainstream" subs.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I'm curious about the psyche of reactionaries. but holy fuck, that was some serious AstroTurfing.

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And because they're reactionaries, it will work.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

IE, reactionaries are a mental disease

[–] outhouseperilous@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It really is.

And no i refuse.

[–] IAmNorRealTakeYourMeds@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

they openly claim that empathy is a sin.

literal sociopaths

No. They're fascists. Its worse.

[–] makyo@lemmy.world 18 points 1 day ago

Anyone who is willing to consider the idea that their Dear Leader isn't the perfect reincarnation of Christ gets banned from there so the mods must have had a field day with that one.

[–] hanrahan@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 days ago

and practically all the comments were about how they were disappointed,

Pffft, now they know how I felt when Trump was elected.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 15 points 1 day ago

Trump is totally going to nuke Iran to make this badboy go away for a few months.

[–] SoftestSapphic@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

It won't make them stop supporting fascists out of spite

[–] surewhynotlem@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago (1 children)

There's a very simple explanation. Trump wiped any reference to himself from the list. And now the list is empty.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

he was in his entry/black boot like 69times.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ironically, Trump has no red meat to feed his Qnut leopards. Even if Bondi ends up taking the fall for the great big Epstein nothing-burger, at best that just kicks the can down the road. These folks want Bill Clinton, Bill Gates, and so on in jail real bad, and at this rate it looks like they're not going to get it.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

this furthers the right wingers conspiracies more, by deleting, or omitting the entries.

[–] BeBopaLula@piefed.ca 6 points 2 days ago

These magats are so firmly entrenched in their cult that there is nothing one can say to them. I have taken to replying “meow” to the most egregious offenders. It’s fun and it confuses them immensely.
