Our bedroom is in the basement and it's 1/2 below ground level. It's never gotten above 21°C even on the hottest days.

Well you gotta stay protected from the monsters right? Without the blanket, they'll get you.
Not if you're Rosa on Brooklyn 99. She would just sleep under the bed with a sword.
Most people need the feeling of being covered, even if it's just a sheet.
It's not about the warmth or comfort, it's about the weight on your body.
It came as a huge surprise for me, but wool blankets are surprisingly comfortable in hot weather.
I'm hot natured and I cannot get good sleep when it's hot. Sometimes even a cotton sheet is just too much for me. But, somehow, a wool blanket is noticeably cooler feeling to me when I'm hot. I don't understand it, yet I'm not the only one who has experienced it.
I also like the weight of a wool blanket. Something about that is quite calming. Obviously, they're also great in the cold seasons, too.
The heat won out against my fear of monsters a few weeks ago. I sleep like a corpse on a mortuary slab now; on my back, one pillow, no blanket. Monsters be damned, my bedroom is too hot 😂
I don't think corpses on slabs have pillows but, yknow. It's close 😂
I... I confused duvet and bidet for a solid minute...
They're... very different things
I was wondering how you'd get your foot out of a bidet
Am I not supposed to be washing my arse with the duvet???
I camp in South Texas in the summer, and the two things that help the most on hot nights are air circulation and cooling blankets. Look for anything made with Lycocell. You can sleep on top of them and they basically act like heatsinks, or if it's only in the 80's / around 25c and you still want to be covered, there are thin waffle-type ones that are supremely comfortable in that kind of temperature.
Also, if the heat is really killing you, consider a cot: the thin fabric of the cot allows air to circulate under you, cooling off your back as well.
Nope, this is the exact reason I have the vents for every room but my bedroom blocked. AC is expensive and I don't care if the rest of the house cooks, but I need my bedroom to be cold at night. Kinda just want to build a refrigerated box bed.
Who look at Mr fancy over here with AC. Round here we just blow fans ineffectually at ourselves like God intended.
just feels cursed to not have a duvet on me to some extent 😭 I kept waking up in the night automatically kicking the duvet off me and putting it back on because my room was sooo hot
The last two nights I threw my duvet off the bed entirely. Kill your idols, set yourself free ✊
You can take the fat, fluffy bit out of the duvet and just use the outer duvet cloth on its own, and it still counts. Much cooler.
[Edit] Even with that, it's all limbs out in this weather. Just a tiny corner of duvet cloth draped across carefully as some kind of "makeshift modesty sporran".
Eww, no, the flappy entangling menace does not work for me!
Same reason I find the notion of traditional sheet + blanket to be anathema.
They sell "cooling comforters" that I've personally found to be quite, well, comforting on particular kinds of nights. My wife describes them as "oily" though. (They don't leave a residue, they just have somewhat of a slippery coating.)
Nope it doesn't work now I've just got two fat cats sitting on me.
Seriously they do not take a hint, if this house catches fire I'm going to die.
My cats used to have a habit of peeing on my bed, so they're no longer permitted in my bedroom. Of course just shooing them doesn't work, so I leave the door to my bedroom closed at all times.
Well it reaches 35c in my bedroom so it'd be even harder to sleep if I had a duvet on.
I always run a fan, and i have no guarantee that i won't throw the duvet off myself in middle of the night, regardless of my wife's wishes.
The venting via a leg thing, I've learned, is kind of common.
Personally, I've never felt comfortable sleeping if any of my toes are exposed. I might lay in bed reading with a leg out or something, but never sleeping. I'd rather pull down the blanket and expose my torso than my legs.
It does kind of feel like over-committing, doesn't it?
I’ve lay on top of mine for weeks.
As I read, both of us are about one leg under the duvet.
...Should probably get the bearaby out, even this is too warm.
Both of us?
Blush
Earlier this year I said fuck it and just started sleeping without one. I'm getting somewhat used to it now.
I folded up the duvet cover, its no more than 40x40 cm but I still sleep under it.
Literally doing this right now
